We have bees so I’m wondering if this is a bee sting. I cannot find a hole or holes but that black circle bruise reminds me if a bee sting. This was not there yesterday. I gave her a bath yesterday and would have noticed. I saw her limping this morning so this is what I saw. Please advise. Can...
I’m super new to chickens. We got our chicks last March. my little pullet (10 months) wants to be a mommy. She has the worlds smallest eggs. She can comfortably fit two of my other girls eggs under her. I’d say those are large-xl in size. I ‘could’ get my silkie some fertile duck eggs to hatch...
hello. I had a hen lay this am -about 9. I just went out to let my girls free range and she was in the nest box again... I left her alone and she eventually came out. She had layed a Shell-less egg at about 7 pm. She was normal before and after. Was it shell-less because she already layed this...
I did move the run but ow I can’t attach it to the coop. They really just sleep their and of course lay their eggs ;). We bought a smaller coop when they were chicks. They still have access to that smaller one. They usually free range in the am and pm.
My yard is pretty level. It’s just the girls ate all the vegetation so there’s nothing to soak up the water.. but I think I should build it up a bit somehow...
my run is mud right now. Stinky flooded mud. I’m guessing I should switch to sand and somehow raise it... I don’t want my girls getting sick :(. Any advice!?! Which sand/ pebbles?? Thanks so much!!
Thanks for the clarification. I didn’t know ages were the defining part of pullet and cockerel I felt inexperienced enough so I just referred to them as hen and Roo. Good info thanks!!!
That’s definitely was the case for my barred rock. She was squatting hard (I guess I’m her Roo). But now my silkie is squatting. So I’m wondering is this only a hen behavior?? We thought this silkie was a Roo, but we really would prefer him/her to be a hen ;)
I just read somewhere that a hen can crow but a Roo will not squat... so confusing ;). I have a silkie and cannot for the life of me figure out its sex. I fear it’s a Roo but he’s never crowed (yet) and he/she squats for me.... 16 weeks+ old. My other girls are also starting to squat. One...
hello. I read that hens that are getting close to laying will show signs of maturity. One of which is ‘bracing’. Do Roos also brace? Or is this just a hen behavior???
I think so too. It definitely doesn’t look like lice, fleas, or mites right? I noticed this while they were free ranging outside their run... at first I thought it was just dirt... I didn’t see any this am.
They were just on the surface of their feathers. I saw none on any other birds. But the white made them easy to spot. They look like fleas but slightly rounder... I’m wondering if they just landed on them. Again. They didn’t seem to be under the feathers (on their skin) just sitting on top...
