She didn't have splayed leg, and I don't really know what it was (but walking was fine when she bothered getting out from heat plate). I guess it was mushy chick from the symptoms. Anyway, she has made a full recovery and I am pleased to say she is now a great little layer. It took quite a bit...
There's not a lot you can do now really but wait. Sounds like your temp may have been a bit off for the incubation. Did you calibrate it?
Just get the temp and humidity right now and I'll have my fingers crossed for you.
You are looking for movement when candling but it will be hard to see as it should be full-ish. You may also see veins but again it's harder to see when the egg is full. I would candle if you are sure there are no external pips yet.
You may see internal pips when candling which looks like a...
Yes she's a lovely red. I also have 2 white, 1 black, 1 blue splash, 1 blue chocolate, 1 true blue and a silver partridge. Oh and 2 white crested polish...but that's another thread :love
Advice taken on the grower feed only from now on. It will save me time in the mornings which is a bonus.
I'm not buying that type of food ever again (for obvious reasons) but it was not my first choice anyway. It was a lockdown crisis Amazon purchase when everything had pretty much sold out. I...
Definitely silkie - and looking like a pullet at the moment too. I have 4 month old silkies and 6.5 month old silkie pullets - this one looks younger than my 4mo ones but that might just be a genetics thing. Lovely birds :)
Background to why I have different types of food (in case you are curious):
I have 14 week old silkies who are on growers pellets and doing just fine - they are in a separate coop to the pullets at the moment.
I have new silkie and polish pullets who when they came to me were on layers...

Just thinking mushy chick. I had one with (expected) that. She survived and is now a lovely pullet. I had to wipe the area with iodine twice a day, keep on top of pasty butt and give encouragement to eat. As well I gave her chick vits and electrolytes to boost her and some scrambled eggs for food.
Thank you. #3 was the one when hatched I was certain was a roo - and then now looks more pullet. Time will tell on that one. I'll be lucky if I got a 50/50 gendered hatch though so can't complain :)
You gotta love them - my 2 definite pullets here ^^ Don't get them if you aren't willing to bathe the one who sleeps at the bottom of the pile regularly. My guys can't roost/won't roost ;)
