Often my mother finds herself unsure of what my chickens can and can't eat and so this comprehensive list will no doubt be useful in the future!
My chickens actually turn up their beaks at most vegetables so having other options is always appreciated
Welp, with the beginning of spring the rats are trying to move back into my chicken coop once again as they do every year. Normally in the past, we've had to resort to your traditional rat-traps to get rid of the adults and then catching the baby ones and disposing of them ourselves. We plan on...
Like everyone above has said, training chickens to do tricks is quite possible but takes determination and patience. Starting while they're young and rewarding them with pets and/or food is the best way to go, but chickens are creatures of habit so if you just keep at training long enough it...
If you plan on getting a rooster or two, be aware that they are a LOT louder than you think they are, and they don't just crow when the sun comes up. My boys start crowing at 3 in the morning until about 8am, and then they will start crowing again at 3 in the afternoon when I usually let them...
Okay everyone I'm back with images and a video of Flash wandering around-
You can see his problem a little more clearly towards the end of the video, but I apologise for being unable to get anything better, it's quite difficult to get any pictures or videos of him without his brother butting...
What a cutie <3
Would you happen to know how old she is? I'm no expert on D'uccles, but have you checked for wattle development? Usually hens will develop wattles later than roos and they'll be paler in colouration, whereas roos will usually be a dark pink or red
I'd say she probably got badly winded and might be bruised, so I agree with Dawg - keep her under observation to make sure she isn't behaving strangely - it'll probably just take a while to heal up is all.
Gosh, what a hard question, there's so many amazing breeds!
Isa Brown: Had two Isa Browns in my first flock and they were both friendly and reliable layers and laid near enough everyday without fault. We could distinguish the brown eggs since they were lighter or darker depending on the colour...
Hello everyone!
Recently I've been trying to track down the exact cause of a problem my young cockerel has with his feet and I've decided it might be best to get a second opinion on him. Flash is a Plymouth Rock roo of about 4 months of age who seems to be walking on the very base of his feet...
If they're still pretty small the other hens may just accept them and start to mother them naturally, but once they've grown in all of their feathers they'll likely be attacked by the older hens and I'd suggest waiting until they're larger (usually 10-12 weeks old so they can fend for...
Ahhh, your little babies look adorable! Hatchlings can be quite the little troublemakers and will always be up to some form of mischief so I wish you luck on trying to keep them out of it haha. I hope everything runs smoothly with them and they grow up to be nice, strong ladies <3
