    No reason not to mix them, both are good for what you are looking for. Australorps tend to be very docile. We would probably get both, just because we like variety, but just whatever you prefer. Neither have different needs or anything, no reason not to do both.

    It’s not uncommon for this to happen every once in a while, especially if they’ve just been chugging a bunch of water. Just keep an eye on her, unless it becomes a regular occurrence or accompanied by other symptoms, I see no need to worry.

    Yes. Ideally it wouldn’t get to where it bleeds but if it does then put pressure, and stop. Go ahead and wrap the foot with Neosporin.

    While it may be a gross way to explain it, have you ever popped a pimple that has not quite gotten to the surface yet? That's how we go about it. It can take a lot of squeezing to get the pus up and out. If you see blood don't freak out, totally normal.

    Our typical approach is to pull the scab off, squeeze out any pus, soak in diluted iodine (a weak tea color is what we aim for) for about ten minutes, then fill hole with neosporin and wrap. If it's not a major case we will often skip the wrapping and just continue to reapply neosporin. You...

    It’s male. Often when there is a dominant male in the flock the more submissive cockerels will take longer to crow.

    Interesting. What does the swollen part feel like? Is it hard, squishy, or feel weird in anyway?

    Unless they seem to be causing issues personally I’d keep them on. Chickens are pretty resilient in the heat. Shade, ventilation, and water are key.
