Thanks! I hope I can keep him. He's one of two and they are both really rough on the hens. :( I need to make a decision soon, especially since one of my new bantams is also a cockerel.
"For now" is right! I hatched out 4 EE chicks last November. 1 was clearly a cockerel by around 5 weeks, the other 3 looked identical to each other, so I thought pullets. Ha! One was what I call a "stealth rooster" and suddenly sprouted pointy saddle feathers at 4 months old.
Five weeks old, from Meyer Hatchery. I lost a bunch of babies I ordered due to a heat lamp malfunction, which has left me struggling to identify the ones that are left.
Because of the puffy cheeks and slate green legs, I'm thinking it's an Easter Egger Bantam. Hoping for a pullet but EE's are...
Any guesses on this little one? I got four new babies from a friend yesterday. They are 6 weeks old and she didn't know breed or gender for any of them. This one has more pink/red on the face and wattle development.
Thanks ChickenCanoe! That's what I thought too... But then set up my game camera and got this!
I am going to try to trap it and in the meantime keeping my one remaining hen locked up!
I woke up this morning to a bloodbath in the chicken run. I already lost 11 of my 14 hens to fox attacks this spring while free ranging so I have been keeping the remaining 3 locked up in their run. Last night/this morning something pried back the hardware cloth under the run door, dug its way...
I have an Amish made coop and I did cut a few extra vents into it (the company would do it for me but it cost extra and I figured it would be easy to do myself.) I also made a screen door for the summer. It worked out great. I love my coop.
