My 1 year old hen isn't herself. She is not hanging with the others, starting to puff out and seems lethargic. She isn't eating like the others and I followed her around to take a picture of her poop which looks weird. She did lay an egg today so that is good. Any ideas what it could be?
She stopped laying 2 months ago. We thought she was egg bound but she wasn't - just declining and not keeping up with the flock free ranging. Took her to a vet that basically offered to put her on fluids, X-rays and a bunch of other dialysis work that I delclined since we were exceeding $350 for...
I've had a 9 month old hen that has been slowly declining. We have tried everything but it is clear she is close. She is breathing with her mouth open and having a difficult time. She isn't standing, stopped eating last night and has eyes shut. Is this what happens at the end? I hate seeing her...
her crop is flat in the morning. I just gave her nuntra drench which always seems to oerk her up. I also cut open a pomegranate and filled with water - she is drinking and eating the seeds which seems good. I'm going to stick with this fungal medication for one more day and see where she goes...
UPDATE: I was given Nystatin for my sick chicken and she has had 2 doses so far. The vet said they found a lot of yeast in her poop but no worms. This morning when I can down to give it to her she is definitely doing worse. Her poop is green and bright yellow now and she is lethargic. I...
UPDATE: Vet did a fecal test and it came back that she has high levels of fungus internally so they suggested I put her on some medication that I'm waiting to hear more about. I hit my home apothecary and started giving her goldenrod and red clover and fresh oregano with some yogurt and adding...
She stopped laying eggs about 5 weeks ago. I haven't seen any soft eggs - but it looked like there was egg yolk in her poop and smelled eggy too. She isn't ballooned and is starting to eat a bit more - nothing like the others though. I'll get her some more grit!! Thank you
Thank you - I didn't take your message as negative, the situation isn't good and I appreciate any experiences or feedback as I navigate it. I never in my life thought I'd care about a chicken this much so I'm hoping she pulls through.
I could really use some advice - I just spent $400 dollars at an emergency vet who basically just looked at the bird (after waiting hours and hours) to say I would have to spend a lot more to do testing - and they clearly had no real avian expertise and I was already fed up with the ridiculous...
I have a ton of tiny ants that are all over my garden and yard. I noticed today that they have just found their way into the run - and probably the coop next. Will they bother the chickens? Can I spread some food grade diatomaceous earth to get rid of them? There are A LOT of them and when I go...
I have a pretty sizeable back yard and have just started to let the ladies out to explore. At first it was great because they would stay close to their coop and scratch around under the bushes. Now they are making there way closer to me. I work in the garden while they are out so I can keep an...
