Are silkie eggs easily distinguishable from polish eggs? I have a polish hen who I think would be happier in my silkie pen, but I don't want to hatch out silkie/polish crosses, only silkies. I'm wondering how hard it would be to just remove Polish eggs when my silkie goes broody. Thoughts?

He met the ducklings and goslings, which was about as seamless as you could imagine. He immediately took to protecting them! Hoping for him to meet the chicks soon.

All very informative! Thank you so much for your help. I agree—I have not found any chicken breed quite as close as a Minorca from my own searches, and I know McMurray has them. Only time will tell us for sure. :)

I'm also not sure why the feathering on the back of his neck fans out like that.

No feathered legs—I guess that rules that out! I'm having trouble finding other breeds that are so black (and don't have weird feathering like Americaunas or something).

I don't think it's a bantam as he's the same size as my other chicks (RIR and Blue Andalusian). My husband thinks Black Copper Maran, but not sure. I will try to get a few more close ups today!

Hi all, new here! McMurray sent us this sweet boy as our "free rare/exotic breed" chick. Any ideas what breed?? He's 5 weeks old (and I'm pretty sure a roo). I'd also love to know what other breeds people got as their "freebie." So fun! Thanks for any help!!
