Thanks for the input, I'll try soaking her tonight and using a disinfectant, I'm unsure if I have any betadine or chlorhexidine, would Neosporin suffice if I didn't have access to the other two?
Unfortunately there aren't any poultry vets nearby, However she was frequently laying just prior to this and has immediately stopped, I wondered if there was a connection to that, what would I do if internal laying was an issue?
She is up and about, running around, eating, you really wouldn't notice anything wrong with her unless you saw that part of her body. And touching it doesn't seem to be hurting her either.
Only once a day right before they go up to roost, should I ease off it? I did not use any Neosporin because it really seemed to be doing fine until like two days ago and I thought it was closed off enough to not need it.
Hello everyone, about a week ago I posted a thread here , and I'm sorry for making another thread but it seems that the old one got buried and I'm getting worried about the chicken, the swelling has gotten bigger and it's began to grow a white covering on it, I'm almost starting to think it's a...
Okay, I’ve been monitoring, keeping her clean and isolating the bully hen from her, the condition has changed, I don’t know if it’s better or worse, it’s grosser but I think getting smaller, here’s a picture, any suggestions?
Okay, so I went out to check on her and the scab (or mess?) has been nearly completely removed without any human intervention, very strange, would chickens maybe peck the scab off?
Here's a picture of what it looks like now, luckily it doesnt seem to be bleeding but now I'm wondering what to do.
Glad to hear you think it's healing well, I was considering trying to clean and disinfect it but with how chickens get in hay, dirt, and whatever else, I thought it would probably be best to leave it to heal on it's own since the wound is already closed
Thanks for the reply! I cannot give this particular chicken a soak as she's very fidgety when being touched and would fight me every step of the way. I personally think it is a scab, but my current plan is to keep an eye on it over the next week and if it doesnt start clearing up I will attempt...
Hey all.
I just noticed a few minutes ago that one of my chickens has either a growth or swelling or...something, under her tail, theres a very big scab so I'm leaning towards swelling, but I'm unsure, it's very soft and she doesn't seem to be in pain when I touch it (but she does freeze up when...
Thank you everyone for the kind responses and suggestions, unfortunately after a very emotional day of thinking I have decided to have her put down as I noticed her body getting worse, the last straw that convinced me was that her wing was stuck in an uncomfortable position and she didn't even...
