The small feather units are for quail and the like. For Cornish x you will need to step up to a bigger unit. Cconly has some for under $500 but you will have to pay shipping. Tsc has a unit online only that is $399.
You can most definitely just put them on grass. They will eat the grass and if you don't move it around it will be a bare patch of ground in a matter of a week or so. Search for chicken tractor.
One of the things with chicken poop is you want it to dry out. Keeping it moist or wet by washing it out will cause odor issues. What I have been doing is either putting wood shaving in the coop and adding to it or just leave a bare plywood floor. Then every now and then going and rake it out...

New member started with raising some some egg layers about a month and a half ago. Have two crested polish, two isa brown, and two ameraucana. I started this after moving out of the city and into the sticks. My plan is to start doing meat birds ( chickens and turkeys ) and rabbits.
The way I do it is to use a small rope to hand them upside down and hold the head while slitting the throat missing the spine and keep holding the head until movement has stop.
I was helping a friend process a few birds today. Out of five birds two were skinny, no meat in the chest or legs. I was wondering if someone could help me figure out why. He was free feeding his birds and had automatic water buckets. The birds were roughly 10-12 weeks old.
