It's actually got lots of good stuff esp after it's been fermented further. High protein (though incomplete I think) lots of probiotics and other stuff based on my research. http://www.feedipedia.org/node/4265
That's where I got a lot of info but frankly some of it sounds like it's in a foreign...
we get fresh/wet distillers grains from a small distillery for free, mostly wheat but some rye and some corn also. i layer it with whole grains (wheat and/or barley) and cover with water and ferment for a week for the pigs. i've also been feeding this to my birds since they seem to like it...
one of our burbon turkeys is sick. she's not eating or drinking that I can tell and she usually roosts on the porch rail but tonight she was under the porch. she roosted in her normal spot last night but was late to get off the rail which is unusual for her. I didn't notice her foraging like...
for now on i'll give it to them by hand at first. I used a dropper on those that seemed depressed 2 more times since my last post. I just went out there to check them again and they were ALL acting totally normal. including the one I posted about above. a couple hours ago it was laying there...
well I just force fed several chicks and i'll keep it up every couple of hours. I was trying to stay away from the medicated feed as we're trying to raise them as organically as possible. we're feeding organic chick starter, it' not crumbled like the chick starter I've used in the past, but...
ok thank you i'll go do that now. last night I made one drink the water, kept dipping his beak in it and he was drinking it, but he still died this morning. an hour ago I watched another one that seemed totally fine last night convulse and flop all over before finally dying. it's looks like all...
I've lost a few chicks to what i'm assuming is cocci (fluffed feathers, a few with bloody stool, very depressed). I started giving liquid corid, 9.5ml/gallon in their water. this is day 3 and I lost 2 3wk old chicks this morning and another 1 1/2 wk old looks depressed. is this normal? anything...
this idea is awesome. we have plans for a greenhouse, it just got modified! we're in MT and this will be great in the winter to help keep both greenhouse and coop warm.
our chickens free range and hang out with us when we process the meaties. they love to pounce on any bits that hit the ground. they don't care if another chicken is being killed or not, they're just looking for a bit of food. that's probably why they're watching you, they're looking for their share.
my hubby hunts, slaughters the goats, pigs, chickens, ducks, etc... he just wonders why you'd do this to a chicken when it isn't necessary. I thought the same till reading this thread. after a little discussion I know he'll let me do it, but will likely not want to be helping me. maybe after...
my husband just asked me "are you still reading about caponizing?!?" i'm fascinated by this thread and have been reading all the posts off and on all day as I had the chance. before reading this I was firmly in the "why would anybody do that to a chicken" camp. now i'm considering whether I...
that's what I was thinking, if there's blood flow it should heal. not properly but perhaps I could save her leg. but I took a good look earlier and the bone coming from her foot is sticking out of the side of her leg and it's scabbed up pretty good. the flesh is the only thing holding that leg...
I'm not very squeamish, I can do it if I have to. not going to like it but I'm thinking it's the best thing to do. I might give it a few days just to make sure (mainly to build my courage lol). my main concern is that she be able to live a somewhat normal life. I know it'll be a long road to...
