I wish I knew. She's been broody for weeks now, there was nothing she could have been doing to make it pop out of place. I can only assume she took a stumble and landed just wrong on it.
I'll give my vet a call.
I don't know how she managed to do it, but my broody, extremely lazy hen has clean popped her hip joint out of its socket. And now I'm stumped. I already spent $1500 last month on a hen with an impacted ovary, I really don't want to spend another $1000 at the vet to have them pop her leg back...
I'm in a situation where I can no longer keep my amazon parrot PD, so I'm searching for a new home for him. He'd come with his large cage, climbing tree, travel cage, and box of toys.
PD can be very affectionate, but also very angry, so he needs to go to the home of an experienced parrot...
My easter egger has had a very foamy, bubbly eye for a few weeks now. She's had this happen once before, a few months back, but it was gone in a few days so when it happened again we didn't worry. But now it's gone on for so long, we're stumped as to what's causing it.
She's not wheezing...
I built a new coop last year and moved my youngest chickens in it without a problem. I have three old hens (9+ years old, so, granny girls) who stayed in the old coop, and originally I let them, because hey, they spent all their lives in there, and chickens hate change.
But now that coop is...
Woke up this morning and found her to be almost 100% better! Head held up, pacing to get let out, growling and clucking and kicking her water dish over. Her wings are still a bit droopy but her head is completely normal again. This has been the weirdest sick chicken case for me.
I'll start treating for wry neck then!
Another thing I thought to add: I have yet to see her sit down, at least all the way. Since this all started she's been more or less standing. I gently pushed her down to see if she wanted to sit and just couldn't, but she stood right back up. Not sure...
She's a bit wobbly, but I think that's just from the strain of trying to lift her head. She's trying real hard, I can tell it's exhausting her. I googled wry neck but her head isn't doing the tell-tale twist with the chin facing upwards.
I'll definitely get her and the others going on Corid...
She is eating! It's hard going but she'll dunk her beak in watery food and eat as much as she can before she gets tired. Her poop looks normal and she kicks her legs and growls and shakes her head when we force her to drink. I'm wondering if it's like this post...
She seems perky and bright-eyed and bushy-tailed now, she just can't lift her head. She's talking to me and fighting me when I force her to drink a little, but it's like she's just lost the ability to hold the weight of her head up. She can stand and walk. I have no idea what to think. No one...
What about a leaking septic tank? Ours is bubbling up nasty water and the chickens run over to drink it. We're trying to block it from them but they keep finding ways in. We do give them our old meat but I don't think it's ever been in that kind of condition.
Her wings are drooping and...
She's acting extremely strange this morning. She's alert and clucking, but she can't lift her head up. It's like it's weighed down and just too heavy for her. I don't know what to think anymore!
EDIT: Could it be Botulism? I did notice some mold in their yard the other day from rain water...
Her poop appears to be relatively normal. Green and watery but no blood or the yellow from yesterday. I looked her over for mites but her butt seems clear. Right now she's talking to herself as she scratches and kicks everything into her water. She'll stop every once and awhile to doze off...
I swear I must be cursed because every feed store in a 30 mile radius either doesn't sell or is out of stock on any kind of medicine that would treat coccidiosis. She doesn't seem any worse, at least. She's talking and she'll eat whatever I give her, and a bit ago she was scratching in her...
No feedstore I've visited so far has carried it. The only place that came close told me to buy chick starter because it has Corid in it. What a pain.
The good news is she seems perky this morning. She clucked at me when I uncovered her cage and both eyes were open with minimal fluffed...
