Chickens with quail?
Don't know about anyone else, but we have always found silkies to be very gentle- they get pikced on by other chooks, even our little bantams! So i think you will be ok... Good luck and enjoy the dear little baby quail when they hatch (they are just like the yellow toy chicks they put on easter...- munchkin

Dwarf chicken
A couple of years ago our bantams hatched some chicks, and one of them as a TINY rooster (when adult he was 1/2 the siz of all the others.. Chickens with quail?
We used to have quail living in with our bantam chooks & rooster, and they all got along fine.. It was in a very large aviary though, and the chooks were out free-ranging during the day.. The only problem we had was that baby quail when they hatched were so small that they went trough the aviary...- munchkin

Our lot do that all the time! The bantam hens gobble down the smaller frogs, but I have not seen one try to eat a biggie.. I saw one of our ducks get a big frog one day, and ran over to rescue it (frog populations here are in trouble because drought is killing their habitat)...Some hero!! The...- munchkin

I think it depends on your dog.. She sounds placid enough, and maybe she was just "retrieving"the chick... Our dog LOVES baby chickens, and will follow them around all day listening to them cheep.. She does get excited if they move quickly though. Once we told her off several times for getting...- munchkin

does anyone know about ducks?
No worries! Another thing to consider (if you have a water shortage problem- our whole country is nearly in drought) is if you put in near something that needs a bit of water, when you empty it throught the drain hole, the water & poo will seep into the ground and be absorbed by nearby plants... -

Oh, we tried that too, but rocks (even the flattest ones) tend to have a way of creating tears too..You may have more success though..If you try it, get the toughest grade liner u can afford.. Another alternative; I ended up buying a sheep water trough, it is about 1.6 metre diameter & 60cm... -

Help!! My drake thinks he is a chook..
We recently adopted an adult peking drake, who had been raised with chooks.. Unfortunately he thinks he is a chook, and tries to "love"all our chooks. As he is bigger than them and ducks have quite a rough mating style (compared to roosters), we are worried he may do some harm. We would prefer... -

Yes!!! One rainy morning I went outside & thought my pony was dead....Tears streaming down my face in the rain, running & sobbing...When i got to her she just opened one eye & gave me that "what?"look....I had only just got her and did not know to expect that... Phew!- munchkin

does anyone know about ducks?
Hi! We tried building an inground pool, but their sharp little claws destroyed the liner and it leaked! Now we use a food storage bin (the big plastic ones) cut in half lengthways.. Just need to be careful that it was used to hold food, not chemicals or poisoning can occur.. Happy...
