need some advice I lost one of my muscuvoys today there was only 2 and they were friends should I get another to be with her we do have 2 other ducks but they stay to there self and I'm worried we did let her see to grieve as I am too just wondering if she will accept another friend. I know I'm...
We just went through the same thing, but luckily I heard the commotion and went outside to see a hawk sitting on top of one of our silkies. It tried to drag the hen off as I was going towards it but dropped her. Not a scratch on her just scared. You will probably have to keep the chickens secure...
The bathtub idea sounds pretty good. It would give the chicks plenty of room to run around and get away from the heat if they get too warm. Just make sure to put the food and water a little ways from the light. As for hen or chicks it's up to what you want. With chicks it would give the...
Not necessarily, it will really depend on their personalities. Just keep an eye on them. Either they will fight, or one will be submissive and sort of be a number 2. If they do get along keep an eye on your hens, just to make sure they're not being over mated. Good luck.
With silkies you can't really go with a time line. It could take up to a year before the hen could lay. Ours we're almost 8 months old before they started laying. Ours still won't use the ramp when it's time to go to bed. They all just huddle at the effect of the ramp. But, they can go in and...
Hi, just as Judy said, not all Silkies like to roost. Ours just "dog pile" in the corner of the coop. Also remember that they can't fly so the roost would only need to be a few inches high.(to help keep from injury). Silkies are such quirky birds, don't worry they may just take a while to...
"Resistance" to liking your coop is "futile". Do you plan to "assimilate" further by add self waterers and feeders? Sorry, the nerd in me took over for a minute. ;-)
That is some nice engineering. What will your solar heater raise the inside temp to?
Welcome, this is definitely the place to f ind all the information you need to know about chickens. Everyone here is also very friendly and offer great advice.
I also live in NC, so... howdy neighbour and hope you find raising chickens as entertaining as we do.
I have 4 silkies and they are having trouble going up and down the ramp to their coop. It seems they are sliding on the wood.
So my question is, should I put more strips of wood across the ramp, or could I put
sandpaper down between the strips of wood already there?
Everyones advice is...
Howdy neighbors! We are also kind of new to chickens. We have only had ours ( 4 silkies) for about 3 months and we also live in NC! There is no better site than BYC to find all of the information you need about chickens and meet a bunch of friendly people.
We have 4 silkies right now and I already want to add the colors we don't have yet....lol
I'm still waiting to see what the gender of the ones we have are.
