Thank you so much for the advice. The vet did tell me to euthanize. She is the only avian vet in the area and is mobile care, which is why she doesn't have all the necessary equipment. So, I called the center where they humanely euthanize poultry and run diagnostics for free in an effort to gain...
Before I take my hen, Pepa, to be euthanized, can I hear some advice? The avian vet in my area cannot diagnose my hen due to lack of x-ray equipment. The symptoms are similar to peritonitis: tail feathers down, upright walk, underweight, lays down a lot, some open mouth breathing. She has not...
Your care for your silkie is outstanding. I'm taking all the advice and putting it into a regime. I took the B vitamin advice and make my rooster a smoothie with a lot of those ingredients. I buzzed it all in my Nutribullet, and he loves it. Now I can add the pain meds and vitamins, because he...
Okay, again thank you SO much for guiding me. No change today. I took him outside to visit his peeps. He was talking to them, so I think he really enjoyed it.
That seems possible. Would that tie into him not moving his wings? I will take your advice and go slow. Pain meds? Like baby tylenol? I desperately want to know his future, but I believe he will walk again. He's just a few months old and so spunky.
Oh yeah, solid poop this morning.
Thanks for the information, I will certainly google it. He is stronger today. Unfortunately, I had to go back to work after Christmas vacay, so I had to leave him. At some point, he flipped to the side. He did it all last night too. As I would check on him, he'd be on his side. How can I secure...
Oh wow, thanks for link. The story sounds just like my roo. I don't have access to all the meds she has. Are those strictly from a vet? I have the sav-a-chic. I will get vitamins tomorrow or are they included in the sav-a-chic?
Bruising would be an answer to a prayer! I know some call me foolish for praying for a chicken, but there is something to be learned in this tragedy, and I intend to care for him until all hope is lost. As day 2 comes to an end, he feels stronger in his attempts to walk. He still can't stand up...
I haven't seen any blood. This is another reason why it feels so strange. The way he looks, no open wounds, missing feathers, etc., makes you think that he would be doing fine. I appreciate all the comments. It is something about the support that makes me feel less hopeless.
The shivering happens after he has tried to walk a few minutes. I'm looking now to see if I can find the wound. I'm keeping him real warm now, and he seems to be resting comfortably.
Thanks so much for the reply! He is not moving his wings. What does this mean? He is still eating like a champ on his own, but I have to give him his water. I'm still playing to find the magic way to place his water feeder so he will drink up. He wants to walk around and still fighting to do so.
My rooster bantam was attacked by a hawk yesterday evening. He is eating and drinking some. I feed him hard boiled eggs as mentioned in other post. He is very alert, but he can't stand or walk. If I hold him, he moves his legs as if he wants to walk. You can feel them tighten up. However, when I...
