I think my 12 week old barred rock is possibly a boy. I will post a picture when I can figure out how to do so. The rock is developing a red comb and wattle; and is very aggressive, chasing the girls around the coop constantly.
How can I tell the sex? Thanks, Matt
I will try Stall Dry in addition to DE. There are three components to my chicken space: a house, a coop, and a run. The house doesn't smell, though it has a concentration of feces and pine shavings. the coop probably smells some with a combination of wood chips, grass clippings and dirt...
I have four 11 week old gals. We are in the City on an average plot with lots of neighbors. The coop and run are near the house and we can smell the musty odor. It gets bad on hot (>75 degrees) days. However, when I sniff around the coop I dont smell that really yucky feces smell. I am going...
We have young kids and are preparing to get three hens. I want both groups to roam around the yard - is this advisable? How does chicken poop in sand boxes go over? I would hate to get chickens and feel required to keep them in the coop 99% of the time...ANY IDEAS?
We want to get backyard chickens, but my wife is afraid of illnesses for our young kids. We will have the typical cool/house arrangment, but would like to allow the chickens to run around the back yard, which will include a swing set and sand box. If they poop everywhere, is that a problem for...
I was thinking 3 chickens in a small yard in a Urban area, some food scraps and scratch but I assume mostly feed. Sounds like a 50# bag could last 3 hens for a number of months...which is good
Thinking about getting chickens - want to know what it costs to feed them for a month or year...(i.e what is the best brand, how long do the bags last, how much do the chickens eat...) THANKS
