    Huge, sandy feeling crop

My friends chicken has what looks to be a huge crop. When you squeeze it, it feels like it's full of sand (grit?). Other than not being able to keep up with the other chickens , probably because of the weight, she seems fine. Any idea what it could be or how to fix?

    Chick swallowed a string

This once happened to one of my chicks and the vet did surgery. There was way more string in the crop than we expected. Good luck!!

Two chickens with prolapse!!! Help! What is causing this?

I have two chickens who are two years old and they both have yucky bums and what looks like prolapse. We have never had a problem like this before and I'm not sure what to do. Why would two birds prolapse at the same time. We have a rooster that we got about a month and a half ago but have never...

HELP FOX ATTACK and MAGGOTS in wound!

My friends' ducks had a fox attack and she missed one wound. Now it has maggots in the wound and it has dying skin tissue around the wound. She has since sprayed it with antiobiotic spray and is giving ivermectin?? (antibiotic) in the water. What can she do to help save it?

I have acess to a good source of whey from both goat and cows milk. I know that you can raise pigs on whey...would it be good for my meat birds or layers? Thanks

Sick chick! Labored breathing with beak open...

I wouldn't worry about the Aspen, I use them for my Guinea Pigs because they have less vapor than pine. I wonder if since you are using organic feed, it could be cocci? (Unless they were vaccinated?) What is the poop like in the sick one?

Are we Cornish Rocks? *UPDATE PG 13*

I am raising my first CornishX right now for meat...I have heard that if they were allowed to live past butchering they would have such bad leg/organ problems that they couldn't survive. Is this actually true? Has anyone raised CX to adulthood?

    this morning they went.....

I agree about the CornishX! I can't wait to get rid of them. My 5 year old named them collectively "Chompy Eats" and that is what they have remained. On the other hand they are such mutants and grow at such an alarming rate that they seem uncomfortable and I kind of feel sorry for them. It makes...

Heavy breathing/wheezing meat bird. What to do?

Thanks for the suggestions. I wrapped a big cold pack in a plastic bag and put it in there but they were all afraid of it. It seems better now that has cooled down. If it's bad again tomorrow I will give them a fan. They can't eat at night because it's dark...why take the food away?

Heavy breathing/wheezing meat bird. What to do?

I have 10 CornishX. All are hot and panting as it is a hot day, though they do have the door open/shade/breeze. They are 5 weeks old on pine shavings and have been healthy. I did loose 2 during the first week and 1/2 but none since. The one I'm concerned about is breathing rapidly with a...

    Is this Fowl Pox?

I am not experienced at all with chicken disease but I do know that my rooster and girls had the same exact thing last summer and they are still fine. They didn't have any other symptoms and it never got worse than what your picture shows so I didn't treat it and it seemed to go away over the...

    2 DEAd chicks! Please advise!

Last week I had a chick that was obviously sick, couldn't move and died after a day of not eating/drinking and had labored breathing. Tonight I came home and found a second dead chick with no prior symptoms. I started with 12 Cornish x and 3 Light Brahma. They are 2 weeks old and both that have...

Can anyone tell me why the chick grit I just bought is tinted red and contains Anise (ingredient in licorice)? Just curious. Thanks!
