I had to confine my hens to the run this summer as they were getting into my neighbors gardens. My problem is that when it rains the run smells. What can i do to make the run less smelly. the run is 8x 28' and i have 23 pullets
I started with 6 Columbia Rock Cross chicks which got me hooked on chickens
So I went and got a few more chicks
7 Marans
the 8 Easter Egger's and 2 Golden Comet's
Then 2 Buff Orpington's
Total 25 - Moderate
Wanting to add a few more this spring
Last week I was sittng on the side steps drinkng my coffee at about 9;30am. My hens started squaking and flying to the end of their run banging into the fencing. I got up so I could see wh they were all scurring down the end of the run. What I saw was a fox by their coops. I tossed a rock...
My first was the day before she was 18 weeks. I have 8 ee's and have received 1 blue egg on Tuesday and 2 more on Thursday. Can't wait til they are all laying
I have 7 marans. 6 French Black Copper and 1 Cukoo Marans. One of my Marans started laying at 19 weeks 5 days. Last Sunday(almost 22 weeks) for the first time I got 7 chocolate eggs in one day!
Went out to the coop to collect the eggs. Like I do every day I checked the coop that had all my newer chicks and there in the nest was my first chocolat coloerd egg!!!!!!!!! One of my Marans has started to lay
I have 2 Golden Comets age 15 weeks, 8 easter eggers 14 weeks and 2 Buff Orpingtons that are 12 weeks. I am concerned one one of my orps is a rooster as it is larger that the other one. Should I know by now if I had a rooster? Wouldn't it already be crowing?
Started with 6 Columbia Rock Crosses from The Agway store last year. Decided I wanted a couple more chicks and variety of colored eggs, Ordered from the hatchery. You needed a min of 10 so I ordered 6 Black Copper Mararans and 4 Cookoo Marans that were delivered in March = 16 birds, Lost 3 of...

Wow, sounds like I have my work cut out for me. I like the idea of a refuge for the chciks to escape the bulllying. I will have to get to work on that. To avoid additional issues I will add more roosting space in the coop. Would you recommend sharing the run (with a refuge) for a few days...
