Karimw, They look great! Thanks for posting! how have you gotten to your current results? Just hatching and culling for certain traits? Or have you had to borrow traits from other breeds?

I know the pair doesn't have desirable physical traits, but would hatching any of their offspring provide me with different results? It seems like their are many variables in their genetic makeup...so, do I collect and incubate and see what pops up? Or what is your observations?

Interesting...at some point it is hard to pin down what these birds "should" be! The pullet has a good angle to her tail then!

Both of them are gold more than silver/white. Not for sure why? Have you seen this? And it's not a case where they feathered out white and then in the sun took on gold - they were gold from the beginning. Second picture he is more relaxed and bent forward showing the hens the treats. I...

Hello! Here are pics of my pair. Bit of background - they are not quite a year. Mr. Heinz stock. Started as all black and as you see, stayed black. The pullet is small with only a collar of gold lacing. The cockerel, I am pleased (maybe because of comparison to the girl) with his size...

Happy Day to all! Had to share some great news! My youngest just took two cockerels to the Douglas County Fair after days of primping, bathing, combing! Good news - both the blue orp cockerel and the iowa blue cockerel took blue ribbons. Very excited for my youngest as this is his first...

Chicken Danz - absolutely agree. She needs to be a quite place by herself until moving freely - just make sure she doesn't need to jump down from anything. I likened it to a human stress facture. My black orp girl wouldn't roost at night, but had to go up about 20" to the nesting box. The...

Chickenmamma1662 - I had an large black orp which exhibited the same syptoms last fall. Upon advice of others with large orps, I isolated her in a place where she could not roost and did not have to fly up or jump down. The theory is that with the large birds, the landing off roosts can cause...

Okay, so out of my hatch from Mr. Heinz eggs - I got 3 boys and 1 girl. All were black/dark from the very beginning. The boys are nice sized. The girl is so/so with only a light collar of penciling around her neck. The girl started laying in May and laid consistently from day one. She is a...
