    Post your FIRST EGG pics!

Here we are now - at 27.5 weeks. All of my hens are laying! I have 7 EE's who joined my one Australorp. They're all laying - sure of that today. ALL of them blessed us with an egg today. Getting ready for the storm?? lol The first pullet egg - that was at first white - is the third from the...

When do Easter Eggers start laying?

I got mine from Mt. Healthy. We started with 15 pullets. Sold 8. So 7 left. The first began at 21 wks, 2 days. We're now at 26.5 weeks and I have 5 of 7 laying. 1 cream, 2 green, 2 blue! Couldn't be happier!!

    Black Bear

Small update - since the poor bear ran away with the bacon flavored "OFF" can, he's not been back as far as we can tell. He is still out and about - I get sporadic reports from the other side of his territory - but so far, so good! That other flock, which was reduced from over 30, down to a...

Please forgive this naive question....NOW WITH PHOTOS (finally)

4 days? Holy smokes! The little guy (Samson) in my avatar started crowing at about 14 weeks. Poor thing was taken by a bear while protecting his ladies at somewhere near 25 weeks. He was so pretty... sigh.

What do you wear on your feet in your coop area?

Brilliant! Absolutely brilliant. My guess is that you read pinterest! bahahha!!! I don't mind the mud/poop sticking in the boots if it keeps me from slipping in said mud/poop and wearing it on my backside instead. Just sayin'.

Help with building run underneath elevated coop!

My coop is above a tiny little secure run as well. I didn't put the hardware cloth under the coop, rather, I skirted it 18" out from the sides and buried it as far as I could stand digging in the hard clay. We've had racoons (caught and dispatched), opossums and even a bear - the girls have...

    Easter Egger laying white eggs?

I forgot to update - the next day she found her peach crayon. The others have yet to start laying - sigh. She lays a slightly larger-per-day tan egg now. We lost our roo and my White Rock to a bear attack recently. I'm just glad she's okay, here, and still laying. Didn't miss a day, tho the...

    Black Bear

I spoke with my mail carrier this afternoon. He tells me this bear has been quite busy - and although my bear and the people's I'm in touch with are one and the same, there is another one out there. (yeah not a grammatically correct sentence I know - lol) A female. A nearby farmer has lost...

    Food Chemical Codex grade DE

The stuff that is used in pools should not be used around livestock or humans. It has been treated (heated I think) and the particles are much sharper and quite hazardous! This is NOT food grade DE. Please don't use it. Oh wow, super old thread! Hope the OP didn't use it! hahah

    STINK BUGS

We're gonna have to do something similar soon. In the past 2 days the little monsters have hatched millions! On one hand I wish the chickens would eat them. On the other hand - no - I really don't want stink bug eggs. I've seen them turn their beaks up many times. Gosh these things are nasty.

    Black Bear

I put it on a can of "OFF" bug spray. And a little piece of bacon under the cap for good measure. muahahha Bite - pow! The hope is that the thought of my chickens leaves a bad taste in his mouth - literallly.
