    Growing fodder for chickens

I use the following bag for sprouting. Very heavy duty and saves time on sprouting large and small seeds/grains together. I just pull the bag out of the soaking water (5 gallon bucket without holes) and set on the ground to drain. I then pour into a 5 gallon bucket with holes on the bottom and...

    Growing fodder for chickens

jchny2000, I'm still reading this thread, but I am very interested in what you are fermenting for your alpacas. We have 2 llamas and will be adding milk goats soon. I currently sprout for our chickens and llamas (barley, oats, wheat and BOSS). The llamas are eating an orchard/alfalfa mix at $19...

You are right about that, and my flock has not had health issues in the 4 years I've been keeping chickens. We've had predators (bobcats and coyotes) and injuries. I like to know how to treat injuries. We now have guard llamas because goats will attract packs of coyotes. We've had electrical...

I'm thinking that your flock had a 'molt' as in 'no egg-laying' in the last 1.5 years since you've been gone. They have lots of eggs in their system to make up for...poor girls and one boy that was also abused (cutting off his spurs...he is looking handsome though...) You should expect more...

I would also do neem oil. I love old-timer advice, but motor oil just doesn't make sense to me if you are going to eat the eggs or meat. In case some of you do not know that this exists for free: Remedies for Health Problems of the Organic Laying Flock...

I love just seeing a smile! Most photos of my relatives are straight-faced...I think it was encouraged to not show emotion. I love to see some personality in photos! You should see my father's and brothers boot-camp military photos. Un-healthy looking and straight-faced. I would be constipated...

    Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

I buy 3 gallon food-grade for 0.75 cents. 5 gallon for $1.50 and 2 gallon for 0.50 cents at a local Asia Mart. Used to hold frosting, etc. They know me well:) I try to buy a few things from them so they don't associate me with 'the cheap bucket lady.' She did ask me one day what I use them for...

    Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

What type of scoop? I read in earlier posts that it takes a long time to drain and the bucket hanging over another bucket takes about 15 minutes...I'm thinking of having this set-up close to the house (covered porch downstairs) and just lift it when I wake up...have a 2 gallon bucket next to it...

    Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

Would it be un-healthy for them though? I usually give them treats that they like along with the chickens (the chickens do not eat everything I feed the llamas and vise-versa). For example, the llamas love alfalfa pellets and they get a couple scoops dry (mixed in with the sprouts now)...with...

    Fermenting Feed for Meat Birds

I'm still weeding through this thread and only on page 30-something...so much to learn and I'm loving it! I've noticed that raw ACV are not created equal. I ordered 4 glass bottles of ACV (I usually buy by the gallon at azurestandard.com since we use a lot of it), but vitacost.com had free...

Try adding some cayenne pepper to the FF right before you feed it. Birds cannot taste hot, but mammals can. Squirrel-proof wild feed has pepper flakes in it. We had a squirrel problem with our chicken feed and the cayenne took care of it. I no longer have to put it in their food, but I do...

Quote: Maybe I should give a little background on what I know about natural and herbal...and I'm still learning:) When I was 8 years old (now 44), my Grandmother was diagnosed with cancer (rare back then). She has 3 specialists that told her she would not make it. She also caught TB at 14...

Oh...I should add that ginger is great for extemities. Cayenne is great for the heart. This is also how you should decide what to add. What is the underlying cause of the symptoms? Cayenne internally will stop a bloody nose. It will also stop a heart attack as it will equalize the blood...

When it comes to natural you can't over-do. Unless they have a reaction to a herb or natural remedy. With herbs, it's out of their system in 3 hours if given internally (not conventional allopathic medicine...could cause side-effects for a very long time...or a life-time). If you want it to stay...

Hi Beekissed, We started fermenting veggies about 2 years ago (mainly pickles, cabbage, carrots, and beets from the garden) and looking to experiment with more. My DH thought it was unsanitary until I showed him a video from Sandoor Katz. Canning is more dangerous IMO and now his opinion too:)...
