I would be happy with brahmas or cochins so either way I'm good. I have had cochins before but never had brahmas so if they are brahmas that will be nice.
They seem small to me but I honestly don’t know. i don’t have any other chicks to compare them to at the moment. They were in a tub by themselves so no other chicks to compare them to when I bought them either.
i was thinking Cochin too just because I don’t know any other breed with feathered...
Rural King had these labeled as Colombian wyandottes but they have feathered feet so I know that’s not what they are. Does anyone have any idea what they may be? Looks like orange skin with four toes. I’m not good with comb types so I don’t know what that comb might be.
I'm not sure. She's turning out to be stunning though. She's gray with the partridge markings and her chest/underbelly and head are off white. I'll have to try to get a picture of her. Since momma raised her she's quite skittish and runs away as soon as I get near the coop/run area.
I know that. I didn't say she was a japanese bantam. I said she looked a lot like mine going along with the previous responses that she was a mixed breed. Suggesting she might be a mix of japanese bantam.
I rarely post because I'm not an expert but thought I'd give a suggestion based on the...
Gotcha! I never knew chicken genetics could be so fascinating. lol!
I am fairly certain the little chipmunk striped one is a frizzle. So that pretty much solidifies it's parents are either my red frizzle hen or the red frazzle hen and my white silkie rooster.
I purchased the cochins as...
This is awesome. Thank you!
Out of the chicks that hatched I only have three left. One of the silkies, unfortunately, didn't make it. The other completely white one with all the silkie traits is definitely a full silkie as it's feathering out with silkie feathers.
The one with the dot on...
Yes, it is. It doesn't look like the one that was still trying to hatch is going to make it. It's very lethargic and not moving around at all. It's struggling to breathe. Still 3 out of 5 isn't bad considering what all they went through.
One of the others seems a little uncoordinated. It...
Four out of the five have hatched and they seem to be doing ok. You can see the one is still trying to hatch. It still has a little bit to go. I don't think the other egg will hatch. When I candled it the last time it didn't seem viable.
I honestly can't believe any of them hatched after all...
Nope! lol! I have some that are better than others as far as typical silkie traits go. My rooster and my splash hen are nice looking silkies. My two white hens are the ones that aren't great as far as being good breeding stock.
I had never had silkies before until this past year. I've...
That makes sense. I knew white could hide other colors. I didn't think about the fact that the gene might not get passed on to the chick.
Also, the chick does have black skin but upon further inspection does not have 5 toes on either foot but does have feathers on its feet. However, my...
