Our town has a Family Farm and there are 2 Great Pyrenees who watch the flock and also the sheep... seems to work...
So that may be a posssibility as mentioned... a gentle Giant
But I have found a SMART dog is best. We have a med-sized mix
possibly an English Setter, Brittany, Husky, ??? but...
Thank you.... I just found someone to take the Evil Roo, Mr. Featherfoot.... and she is aware of his disposition... go figure
Now all I have to do is grab him this evening when he's roosting on the stall wall... and pop him into one of the dog cages.....
He just proved he's really got to go...

Thanks for the suggestion. I've got a question with roos up now since I think mine is hopelessly in hate with me...for what I'm not sure.... What ever happened to "don't bite the hand that feeds you" ??? I just found a home for him a minute ago...so problem solved...
Love your quote...
HELP! I have 1 rooster and 2 hens... all nearly a year. This poor rooster has a story. He and 1 hen were fine with me and everyone until the hen got attacked and killed by a rogue dog. Then he spent about a month with no hens. He was extremely friendly and visited the neighbors. I could pet him...

That's just what I'm looking for!!!! I wish those "really good pages" would be kept in a file of sorts. I found a really good page yesterday with details for killing, cleaning plucking...and I have some other topics that I keep in a folder now... It would be nice if BYC had a folder like...

I don't really think we need 2 extra sections, my reasons.
-Managing your roosters is part of flock management
-Poop, inspecting poop, telling the difference of poop is part of Flock Management
-You could also ask questions about poop cleaning in Coop section of this forum as well as...
Would love to see an area with information dedicated to roosters.... and how to raise/manage them as mine is going to be headed for the pot I think...
And poop... I think people would appreciate information on removal/usage and coop design ideas for easy cleaning...
Just an idea....
Thanks for...

Yep, my first... Having chickens didn't seem this tricky when I was a kid.? The things your parents don't tell you when you're little, LOL I'm on a learning curve.
OK...OUT SHE GOES.... oh roo will finally quiet down. He was driving me nuts!
I had started my flock with a late fall...
My hen is sitting on an empty nest. She is an 8 month old Red and I took the one egg that was there a few days ago... but she is still on the nest. Should I shoo her off?
The roo is a pain without her..has taken to trying to mount my Maltese... He used to crow when she was in laying but now he...
Mine started that last week when his girl was in brooding... I just chased him around the yard and threatened bodily harm...he's been fine for a week now. He's just trying to show you who's boss... NOT! Make it clear and he'll give you respect...
With chickens I had when I was a kid, I also...
