6 Month old STILL NOT laying, Calling Cochin Mavins!!!!UPDATE!!!!

I have an eight month old barred cochin who has yet to lay (she is the oldest of all my birds). I go out everyday to check for eggs and come back to the house disappointed. So you are not alone. BUT she sure is cute and has a wonderful personality!!

    feces in tail feathers

I have been watching her for the last few hours and she seems to be opening her mouth like she needs to yawn (not too frequently) and she seems to pecking at things and missing. I haven't noticed this before. Not sure if the additional info will be useful.... Thanks again!

    feces in tail feathers

Hi all, I have been carefully watching my favorite hen (Rafeala) for the past few days because she has white feces stuck in her feathers. This morning I attempted to wipe it off with a warm moist paper towel and was surprised to find that there were actually chunks of feces stuck in there-- much...

    BO & EE sex?

Hi chicken lovers. The birds below are a little over 6 weeks old. I am leaning towards a 'she' on the BO, but the EE is quite aggressive and appears to have a thick comb coming in. I just want to check with the experts...... BO (Nora) EE (Billie Jean) Thank you!

    lonely hen and baby chicks

Thank you, I'll will give this a try with the little guys. Any suggestions on hushing up the older hen or keeping her occupied while in her coop? We let her out in the evenings when we return from work and this tends to keep her quiet...but any other tricks would be appreciated!

    lonely hen and baby chicks

    Buff Orpington- roo or pullet?

Thanks for your replies. We got rid of him this morning-- the women seemed to think he was an EE too. There is a rooster rescue/placement center in town which was quite helpful. Thanks again!

    Buff Orpington- roo or pullet?

Wow, a sex link rooster? How can you tell? I'm also curious as to how a hatchery can mess up breed and sex!!? Bummer.

    Buff Orpington- roo or pullet?

I know she/he doesn't look much like a BO, I'm guessing that 'it' is a hybrid perhaps between a BO and an Ameraucana. Total guess, this is my first time having chickens!

    Buff Orpington- roo or pullet?

Please take a look at our 3 month old BO-- we bought her from a hatchery and it is doubtful she is really a Buff Orp. Looks like a strange hybrid to me. Regardless, she is beginning to squawk! Could she really be a roo? Thanks for your help!
