6 Month old STILL NOT laying, Calling Cochin Mavins!!!!UPDATE!!!!

They get layer pellets and they have south windows on their coop. Maybe I will supplement light for them.

Ok, I read that Cochins don't lay until they are 9 month old...................HUH??????
I really have to wait till March????? The Christmas cookies are waiting. I need eggs NOW!!!! I HATE store eggs. No one in the fam will eat them.

I have raised nearly every color of standard cochin that there is and none of mine laid before 9 months. Most started around 10-10 1/2 months.

I have an eight month old barred cochin who has yet to lay (she is the oldest of all my birds). I go out everyday to check for eggs and come back to the house disappointed. So you are not alone.

BUT she sure is cute and has a wonderful personality!!

I have 7 standard cochins that are 10 months old and still have not done anything I have also noticed the roosters are not real go getters if you know what I mean so maybe they also mature late. I will keep waiting and hoping.

I also am concerned on my 3 rir 8 months and have not laid one egg yet. when will they, also can anyone tell me what time of day do the hens lay eggs

Our cochins are all 7 months old and ONE just started laying....sporadically .
Ive heard mention that they often will be 10 months to a year before laying!

My girls are 6 months old. 2 golden Comets, 2 RIR and 2 BR. The golden comets are going gangbusters, one for about a month and one for about 2 weeks. Nothing from the other 4 yet. I think it's the time of year, shorter days and all and they're still young. I put a light in yesterday to go on for a few hours in the evening and about 3 hours before sunrise in the morning. Let's hope.
