My duck's nest taken over by a hen

My duck laid a nest of eggs a few weeks ago. Over the last week one of my hens has taken over the nest and the mom duck doesn't seem to care any more. Two questions: One, I would like to move the nest. Is that ok? Two, if I remove the hen from the scene will the duck go back to her nest or...

    Watery poop and no eggs

I have four hens between 18 months and 2 years, two are Barred Rock and two are Road Island Red. We are not getting any more eggs. Their poop is watery and milky looking. We just treated for worms, Is there anything i should know or do? They are free roaming chickens.

    How does diet effect eggs?

I thought that we had researched before hand. We had to get clearance from a vet as well before we could do the project. I am VERY glad we did not hurt our girls. BYW, my daughter took first place at the science fair.

    How does diet effect eggs?

The project is done. I let my daughter and her friend figure out and run the project and here is what they came up with. They ended up separating our flock into three groups, control, garlic and onion. The garlic and onion hens were always given a bit of garlic or onion powder on what ever...

    Winter egg laying

Our night temps are single digit lately. The girls free range during the day, get table scraps and have plenty of feed. Their poop has gotten runnier and they have stopped laying eggs. They seem healthy beyond that. I am kind of sad because I actually had to go buy eggs at the store. Is it...

    How does diet effect eggs?

Great idea. We just got a half foot of snow yesterday with more to come all week. We did notice in the summer when they were free range in the garden their yolks were lovely and they were very happy, especially when they were allowed in the tomato patch. I may have to run to the market...

    How does diet effect eggs?

Thanks for all of the advice and information. We have December and January to experiment. I think she wants to play with the garlic and the fish idea. I will let you know of the findings.

    How does diet effect eggs?

My daughter wants to do a science project with our chickens. She wants to see how diet effects their eggs. Does anyone have any information or ideas for us?

    It's about time I join!

For the most part the nose picking stopped. He is eight and still relapses on occasion, but over all does quite well. By the way, we are from the beautiful mountains of Utah. The hiking is spectacular here. I have five kids with one more on the way (Surprise!!). We also have two cats.

    It's about time I join!

My first chicken experience started last November. I had to follow through with a promise I made to my son. I told him if he quit picking his nose he could get a pet of his choice. Well, he wanted a chicken (I was expecting a dog-I am so glad we didn't go that direction). We got our newly...
