hello-
we have a young buff orpington. she was hatched in march. last week we came home to find her struggling to walk- she seemed to limping to avoid using her right foot, which seemed to be somewhat turned in. the right foot was weak- she would not clasp with it. there was no sign of...
doh! no i didn't keep them in the coop before letting them run around. lesson learned. should we keep them in the coop now for a few days? or is it better to let them out each day now that they are used to it?
since the coop is 2 feet off the ground it is kinda tricky to throw the food into...
should i try to round them up before sunset? it seems once they have settled down for the night- no amount of goodies or coaxing will get them to move. they have access to feed all day so scratch isn't so tempting to them. but i see your point in training them.
it isn't that cold here at...
hello friends
i need some advice.
we have 5 chicks of different breeds and put them into their coop/run last week. everynight since i have found them huddled together outside and i move them into the coop for the night. i know they can get into the coop- they go in their during the day and...
hello folks
we've almost finished building a coop for 5 chickens that is 5 feet long by 4 feet wide. the roof on one end is about 3 feet high and then it tappers to 2 feet.
here's my options
have one long 5 foot roost that goes down the middle of the coop
have two 4 feet roosts that are...
well, as a mom, i certainly don't need another space to clean up...so i'll try to go for a no-ramp situation.
my coop plans are coming together- looking totally different than what i thought they would be...and now i'm thinking "why not build a 4 by 6 by 6? then i could go back tomorrow and...
thanks pat-
lots of good info that makes sense- although i'm not sure i would have figured it out on my own.
do you have an insight on the ramp vs. no ramp? how low does a coop door need to be for birds to get into it w/out a ramp?
we just got our four little chicks today! one of each...
just wondering how your coop turned out? you had most of the same questions i've been wondering about! we are going to p/u our 4 chicks today...and i've been fretting about the coop for day now.
any advice now that your coop is built?
thnx
one more question about height- what's the ideal height for a coop being up off the ground...or if not "ideal" what are pros/cons?
i just read something about low coop means no ladder to clean poop off of!
the more i read...the more questions i have!
lots of good info! thanks:)
yes, the boys are hoping to have chicks- and those polish are so cute with the poof! but i realize that we may not end up with all pullets- unless we buy sex-linked. fortunately we live in an agricultural area so having a noisy rooster is not the issue- it's just...
thx for the advice-
sounds like i need to focus on building one coop that is bigger, rather than 2 smaller ones, and a slightly larger run- and then a separate tractor for when i'd like the girls to dig up the garden area or such.
i'm wondering if pvc piping would work in a hoop style tractor...
