Just reading your discussions on the possible stroke, poisoning or Mereks disease in one of your girls. We gave a similar situation. There's not been any poisons pot out, but Lily went blind a few months ago, sometime after a mink attack took most of our girls :(. We have had her in a cat cage...
Hi and thank you for all the information Ruth.
I will be performing this little operation as soon as I can. We have 3 out of 11 with it so I was wondering if their house wasn't clean enough, but again ours do free-range over 5 acres as well. I am thinking that if we do it in the evening she can...
Hi
I am not building a new house, just want to remodel a very old one with a great foundation and walls, and make a different type of roost as some of the girls are getting older, (in retirement now as couldn't part with them), and I don't want any more broken legs from jumping down from the top...
These are a great band as they expand as the girls grow and never get stuck high up on their legs. Our feed guy keeps many sizes and colours in stock and sells yous what you want for 15 cents each. We keep our girls (all 15 of them for eggs and of course they all have names and we don't cull...
Thanks Kathy, I really appreciate the reply. We live in Canada in a small community with no avian savvy vets. Our local feed store fellow also raises chickens, he's a free-range egg seller and former organic farmer, have also known him for over 20 years, so took his word for the first med we...
Thank you very much, we finally found an avian vet and have the correct meds. The girls are getting much better, thankfully. We were so afraid of pneumonia.
I dry the eggshells in the drawer under the oven and put them in the oven after it has been turned off. I do this for a few weeks then put them in my food processor and grind them up. What I was wondering about feeding them the eggshells is how much of the calcium do they actually absorb...
Wow! What a warm and wonderful welcome from so many. I feel like I have found new friends all over North America, maybe further!
Thanks all!!

Hi all,
I'm new to chickens all over again, haven't had any for about 15 years. We have 4 Isa Browns and 3 Aracaunas, (sp?) one of which is a young rooster and they are beautiful boys!
I'e been married to my hubby Ron for 39 years and we have 3 grown kids, 33, 30 and 25.
We decided to get back...
Hi, I have one young hen in a similar circumstance. She is very lethargic, runny nose, but not sounding wheezy, just keeps falling asleep when out running around with the others. So, we brought her in a couple of days ago and went to the feed store, my very experienced fellow there gave me Oxy...
