    Hatching early!

Well I have 5 chicks hatched now - all fine, fully developed except 1 with a severely crooked neck, which i posted about in the emergencies forum - it's still drinking and walking around and peeping and sleeping so I'm not gonna cull it unless it starts to struggle, just massaging the neck every...

Very twisted neck, newly hatched, not stargazing?

Thanks - The neck isn't straightening on it's own yet, but my gentle massages are helping it increase mobility.

Very twisted neck, newly hatched, not stargazing?

Thanks, I have vitamins in the water and will pick up electrolytes when I go into town. I read on a silkie site that massage helps so I'm just gently massaging it every few hours.

Very twisted neck, newly hatched, not stargazing?

Hi everyone - I had a chick hatch yesterday with a completely twisted neck - the silly little thing is practically looking behind itself. For the first 6 hours it could hardly get off its back because it would lose it's balance, but it's now up walking and drinking. I haven't seen it eat yet...

I'm not sure, I don't have a thermometer on my counter lol. But it was a warm day so I wouldn't be surprised. Upto 5 pips now!!!

    Hatching early!

Last timeI hatched these they were right on time at day 21, I think they must have started on the counter the day before I set them.

    Hatching early!

Nope, ran it between 98.5 and 100.3 for the whole hatch, humidity between 20-30%.

    Hatching early!

It's an odd hatch! I set the eggs 19 days ago and three have already pipped, but I just locked down yesterday. Silly little chickens. I have about 7 australorps and 13 "Austrashorns" (our nickname for a barnyard cross of australorp rooster and shaver/leghorn hens). One pipped half an hour after...

Day 21 Humidity ???? Need Help ASAP!!

Add a little. I've had membranes get dry and tough after pipping at 60%, so I keep it above there during hatching.

Guess rare breed chick from Privett Hatchery

Dutch bantams can look like old english sometimes too though.... I'd say either but I agree about the size! It's too big for a Dutchie.

    Dutch Bantams!!!

My ol roo (on my profile pic) passed away last week, so I'm going to be picking up a new bantam roo to keep my girls busy... I've decided on a dutch bantam from a local guy here and while researching them discovered that one of my bantam girls (who I thought was a silver spangled hamburg mix) is...

Lowest temp dip and successful hatch?

I had a four-hour power outage at day 8-9 that dropped it down to 70 degrees, and four out of fourteen hatched. The egg turner quit mid-cycle though so a few of those deaths may have been due to that.
