THANK YOU. So much good information. I'm surprised I didn't stumble upon that article yet!
For the calcium and vitamin D, what dosage is appropriate for them? Is it pill form or should I look for liquid? I tried giving her Tums once when I thought she was egg bound and she was not at all...
Hi there. I have a 2 yr old marans who has been laying every other day until her molt this year. Prior to her molt I noticed she had started laying slab sided eggs. One side would also be so thin that often times I would see that the egg had a crack in it before pulling it out of the nest box...
How much space is there in the run?
If you seperate a chicken from the flock, you can have issues integrating the seperated chicken. It's best to have a jail where they can see each other but not hurt one another. I've implemented this is a large dog crate. Some people make a jail in the run...
Hello! Any insight on this poop? None of my flock is showing any symptoms of sickness and I've been noticing it for a while. There are normal droppings after this happens.
Oh my. I did not know they can get that broody!! I'm laughing over here since when I was doing research on breeds, I found somewhere that said they don't go broody and now to find out multiple times in the year 🤦🏼♀️
Hello! I let out my broody Ameracauna today after 3 days in the broody cage. So far so good! I did not wait for the tell tale egg in the cage since I caught her early and I read online that some ladies take weeks to lay again. She hasn't laid since Saturday so I'll be keeping a close eye on her...
That's the weird thing about this. She laid the egg, I pulled her out and took the egg, she free ranged for about 20 mins, and then sprinted back to the nest boxes, so we pulled her out again. Boarded up the nest boxes tonight and let her roost but she was panicking about not being able to get...
So then one final question. At what minimum temperature will she be ok to sleep alone at night? Lows here are in the low 20s for the next few nights and with cold air all around her, I dont want to cause her any harm.
My ladies are 9.5 months so they aren't molting. I could be wrong, but I heard they don't molt in their first year?
Definitely will scrounge up all the tough love I have. I just want to be certain on what's going on since I dont want to unnecessarily stress her out.
So it's ok to do the broody...
@David61 that gif got to me LOL. And thank you everyone for your responses!
But now I have more questions.. she laid an egg yesterday in the cage... I felt terrible and I'm confused now.
For the past few weeks I've been finding her feathers in the nest box. I knew that they were hers because...
Hello! I have my very first broody... she's a 9.5 month old Ameracauna. I'm choosing to go with the broody cage to stop her broodiness. Simple removal worked yesterday but not today. I placed her in a slightly elevated (bricks underneath) small crate in the run (under the elevated coop) with...
