I have never seen a Russian Orloff chick with yellow skin. Their shanks are yellow, but the skin of their face, including the comb, should be pink or red; pink at this age.
There's nothing else I could think of that it might be, though. It looks like an odd colored Russian Orloff.
Aaaaaaahhhh!
Late update for day 10 when I candled to see who was developing and who wasn't, out of my 7 silkie eggs 3 didn't develop at all. I cracked them open and there was absolutely nothing that went on in them, just infertile or otherwise failed to develop.
Day 15 I candled and one chick...
I set my first ever eggs in my homemade incubator; 7 50% silkie/50% showgirl eggs of unknown color that I picked up from a breeder in a nearby city. Today is day 4, I candled all 7 and 4 have obvious signs of development, 2 were indistinct, and 1 seems to not be developing. My hatch date is Nov...
I've got my first broody ever- Saffron, my roomate's hen, has gone broody at 8mo old. I had three eggs of hers retained that we hadn't gotten around to eating yet, so I gave those to her, and-as an experiment-I snuck the two quail eggs we had on hand under her in plastic easter eggs weighted...
I like to feed my birds booze before I slaughter them. I wait until they're comfortably drunk before I restrain them and cut their throats. When intoxicated they're less upset about being restrained and I find they flail and twitch less in their death throws. It seems to make the experience a...
When I clip a bird's wings I always clip symmetrically for the bird's comfort and balance. If you clip only one wing the clipped wing will work harder to keep up with the unclipped one, and the bird will develop unsymmetrical breast definition, something I prefer to avoid. If my bird is still...
I've found it to be completely random as well. I've tried this with 9 baby silkies, and which birds curl vs. which birds relax have had no correlation to which sex they turn out to be. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I need birds that I think look good, like to be picked up and cuddled, and can tolorate the temperate temperatures of my region; up to 110F in the summer, and down to -15F in the winter. My birds are pets first, garden helpers second, and the eggs and rare carcass are a significant bonus.
I have one year-and-a-half old Polish cock that I just brought home a week ago, and he's pretty nervous because he hasn't had much human contact and he's around a couple new cocks who want to beat him up, but when I pick him up and set him in my lap for one-on-one time he settles down pretty...
My silkies have dark brown to red-brown eyes, the buff orpington has orange eyes with hints of green, my lightest colored Easter Egger has golden brown eyes, and the rest have medium brown eyes.
