UPDATE - so I had a snap mouse trap (had a mouse problem couple years ago in house so had one left over) I set the trap right where the path is that u think they are coming in and caught what I believe is a mouse. It is smaller than i thought it would be, long tail and little hairs on it. So now...
I know there are several posts about rats .. I've been giving myself anxiety reading them all and need some solid advice!!!! New chicken mom. Made several mistakes along the way but I'm learning along the way.. first mistake was a prefab coop from Tractor Supply .. I am working with what I have...
New chick mom here.. my girls (& Tony my cockerel) are almost 17 weeks. Went out to the coop this morning and I got my first egg!!!! I was greatly disappointed... It was already cracked open! 😪 The shell itself seemed fine and sturdy and the contents inside looked normal. I have them on starter...
so do you think there is a chance he will settle down with the crowing a bit when he is a little older? i think I am going to make coop darker with black out curtains to help.
Have you ever had to use one of these no crow collars? I just don't want to hurt him and I want to do what's best buy him he isn't aggressive at all with any of the humans in the household just get a bit rough with my least ranking pull it so I'm hoping it's just his teenager phase ... honestly...
Believe me I know that's why I'm so torn up about this he is actually a very sweet little guy comes running to me anytime he sees me he's one of the sweetest and friendliest with the humans.
First time chicken mom. I appreciate anyone who reads all of this .... I have 7 chickens, about 16 weeks old. We have 1 bantam cockerel (was not planning on having a rooster). We kind of just kept him and were seeing how things went. My boyfriend is done with little Tony. He is a 16 week old...
New chicken mom.. 7 chickens, mixed flock... Once a sweet little cockerel, Tony, my 13ish week sebright bantam cockerel, had quite the incident today! I let them free range in my backyard with me everyday when I get out of work. All of a sudden, Glinda, my apparent red sex link, was screaming...
I hope so .. I think I'm just making myself crazy but I worry what if she isnt a true red sex link and some other kind of mixed breed. The other chick I got with her, who was also labeled as buff orpington pullet is a true orpington.
I have a mixed flock of 7 chickens, with one confirmed cockerel. I can only have 1 rooster so I am hoping I am wrong.... Glinda is about 11 - 12 weeks. Was sold to me by Tractor Supply as buff Orpington but she clearly isn't. A lot of people here said she is probably a red sex link or a mutt. I...
Curious how your chicks are doing! I am a new chicken mom and have 2 sebright bantams in a mixed flock with larger regular sized pullets. They are about 11 weeks old now. My golden laced sebright is is cockerel.. Tony.. I told him he can stay as long as he continues to be a good boy. He used to...
first morning with my chicken run t50 automatic door ..6am look out the window at coop .. door is open, chickens are roosting and pecking in their run ... happy chickens & happy mom 😊 thanks for everyone's advice!
Just curious what time everyone let's their chickens out in morning? Or if you have an automatic door does it open at sunrise or do you set it to open later? I have a cockerel and my town does allow roosters but I'm worried because he has definitely found his voice (about 9-10 week old bantam)...
Yes definitely crowing coming from my sebright Bantam (I know he is imperfect with single comb but i tell him he is my beautiful boy .. he is staying so I definitely cannot have 2 roosters so happy Agnes hopefully is pullet!
quick back story .. new chicken mom.. learning as I go .. making mistakes but learning from them ... I have a mixed flock of breeds and some bantam chickens that are about 9 to 10 weeks old now. I purchased them from Tractor Supply not really knowing what I was getting. I am proud of myself with...
