Lethargic RIR, won't eat, stands hunched, no visible eggbound

It is. Figuring out what's treatable/vetworthy/hopeless is my learning curve. (It's fitting that I first made the typo, learning curse.)

Oh no -- I'm so sorry! So hard. Sending empathy your way.

Lethargic RIR, won't eat, stands hunched, no visible eggbound

Sadly, our poor girl deteriorated terribly until we had no choice but to stop her suffering. Someone on another board said it sounded like egg yolk peritonitis, and when I looked into it, she had all the signs. Unfortunately it's just not recoverable unless you catch it really early. For us, it...

Yes a bit, couldn't feel anything. Certainly nothing hanging out like I've seen on youtube. Maybe need lube and try further?

Lethargic RIR, won't eat, stands hunched, no visible eggbound

Yes, I brought her in the house now, where it's about 75 degrees. It's 100 outside today in Boston. The only vet that handles poultry within an hour is closed :(

Salmon and eggs are in the cage with her, but Sunny has no interest and won't take it by hand, even if I put it in her beak. Her eyes are mostly closed and she stands still. I actually can't be sure when she last ate or passed an egg because there are 6 in there (3 brown layers, 3 green layers)...

Lethargic RIR, won't eat, stands hunched, no visible eggbound

One of my Rhode Island Reds (4yo) isn't well — she is squatting and lethargic and won't leave the coop for the run, won't eat or drink. It's been 2 days. I suspected she's egg bound, and brought her in for a warm water bath, and have her crated in the house. She's standing up like a turkey...

    BYC members in Massachusetts?

Thanks! I hadn't heard that about first-year birds usally laying through the winter.... And yes, definitely getting a de-icer coil for the water bucket.

    BYC members in Massachusetts?

Hi all, I'm in my first winter of chickens, and I'm concerned about keeping them warm enough. I only have 3 (RI reds and a barred rock) so there's not a lot of body warmth. (What started as 6 chicks became 3 hens when half of them matured into roosters, which we can't have in our town.) We...

First winter....wondering if the coop is warm enough

Thank you! A great thread. Do you know how I can delete this here? I posted here accidentally and don't want to be off-topic. Thanks!

First winter....wondering if the coop is warm enough

Hi all, I'm in my first winter of chickens, and I'm concerned about keeping them warm enough. There aren't many for body warmth; what started as 6 chicks became 3 hens when half of them matured into roosters, which we can't have in our town. We built an 8-bird coop from Tractor Supply Company...

Free White Silkie Rooster 3m old *sniff* — eastern MA

We actually found him a home the other day at a 4H camp in southern MA. Phew! But thanks for asking. So for anyone needing to rehome a rooster, these are options :-)
