Mega algae problem in waterers. What is the best way to get rid of it?

I'm using a 35 gallon plastic barrel with an automatic waterer for my run/coop. The barrel is blue with a lid on it and I fill it with a hose attached to a water level float. I've got a thin coat of algae in the barrel now. I have got some Fountec Algaecide for it. It says it is used for...

Chickens not roosting in the coop

My chickens will not roost in their coop. Anytime. they will gather in one corner of the run near the coop and sleep. I feel like I've got sufficient space on the roosting bars. They will go into the coop during the day, but not at night. I've got 8 Black Australorps, 3 Buckeyes and 3 Speckled...

How high should my perch be?

I did make it. But after the coop was occupied, I found out the roosts were too close to the roof area. I need to drop it down about 12 in, or so.

Added 3 new hens to flock, 1 hen almost pecked to death

I'm having to build a temp coop and run to separate the buckeye from the rest to give her a chance to heal

Added 3 new hens to flock, 1 hen almost pecked to death

I have small flock of Buff Orps (1 roo, 3 hens) and Speckled Sussex (3) hens. These had been together since last May when I got them as chicks. I had lost 1 Buff hen and 2 SS since I started the flock. The Buff roo had been wearing the hens out, so I decided to get him some more hens to give the...

    Brooding in the coop

I've got about 10' of roost in there now, with room for a few more feet of roost if needed. But waiting to see what my hen to rooster ratio will be. If I get several roosters, I'll wind up having them for meat.

    Brooding in the coop

Thanks donrae. I appreciate it. As far as the 10 chickens, I'm planning on adding at least a 20'- 25'X5'X5' screened run and I will be letting the chickens free range also.
