Wouldn't It Be Fun?
Wouldn't it be fun to have a few chickens. . .safe eggs. . .easy to care for. . .cheap to keep. . ." That's the line I used on my husband, Tom, back in early August of 2010. A vet had been to the house earlier that week and told me how much she loved her backyard chickens...

I'm just telling you she had the poor hen (young) checked and was told it was dieing of fatty liver disease - due to corn consumption. While reports online state in small amounts when not a sole food - corn is 'excellent' - her hen died from just getting a handful each day and shared...
I'm far from an expert - BUT the vet who does acupuncture on my dog (the person who got me into backyard chickens) was telling me a couple weeks ago that she lost a chicken due to a liver disease that came from corn consumption - and added that she only gave them corn as treats, just a handful...

Laid on New Year's Eve at 10am! Gladys, Golden Comet
On the scale!
Store bought jumbo egg next to Gladys' first egg - not too shabby Very yellow yolk, huge in comparrison to the white. Love how the white doesn't spread out in the pan when they are so nice and fresh!

Good News! Got my first egg on NY Eve. . .then another the next (both from my golden comet, Gladys The first was at 10am the second was about 1130 the next day - then yesterday -= nothing - but her eggs were both right on the line between med and large - so I figured normal to skip a day or...
Almost afternoon and still I'm in a mood. . . must have woke up on the wrong side of the crate this morning. Other than smiling at photos of critters, I'm not fit to interact with The warmer weather should have done some good to my spirits, but naaaah. Hope you all have a better day than I'm...
I love seeing all of the dog (and kitty) pics! I never get tired of meeting critters. . .dogs, horses, cats, chickens, cows. . .lol put fur or feathers on them and I just think they are beautiful! Thanks for starting this thread - while I adore chicken pics, I also like to see the canines that...

nczookeeper - What breed are your dogs (or some of them)? Not Pyrenean Shepherds, are they?
All are rescues - as a trainer, I usually rescue, train, and adopt out dogs, keeping those who have issues where they might not fit in with the average family (aggression mostly). I know the...

A dog's DNA is so similar to the DNA of a wolf, that until only very recently, testing could distinguish the two. Their internal organs are identical, therefore able to break up and digest the same food, and eat on the same schedule.
Feral or wild dogs exist all over the world -...

Yes, I was just wondering how many of those that said SKIP the meal for the dogs, actually go without food themselves for over 24 hours?
Scrambled eggs and cooked rice are great ,bland and low fat, should not upset their stomachs.
I would not feed them high salt sardines or rich meats...
