Need help! Tiel's eyes look weird!!!

Take him to the vet, but also figure out if something in the environment can be causing it. Is he housed near anything that produces fumes/smoke? Also, are you using any of those hanging bug repellents from or near his cage? I've seen people use them with good intentions but they end up...

    Gapeworm in button quail?

I ended up doing this and then mixing it in their seed, which is their favorite. Thanks for the response and fingers crossed!

    Gapeworm in button quail?

I'm pretty sure one of my hens has a mild case of gapeworms. She's been showing symptoms for over a month. At first I thought it was related to the heat, so I moved her to a cooler location. Unfortunately, she's still stretching her neck, tossing her head, and gaping. It doesn't seem to have...

Quail Chick Falling Over (possibly after some trauma)

Found the solution: I noticed he was pecking frantically at his "injured" leg a few minutes ago and so I picked him up again to see what was going on. It turns out while he was wandering around our apartment he picked up a dust bunny that wrapped part of itself high on his leg and was tucked...

HEEELPPP!!!! 3/4 of my quail are infected on the bottom of there toes and feet (with pictures)

I don't think bumblefoot is contagious from one species to the other like, say, a cold for example. The bacteria exists in the housing and affects the feet when there is some kind of abrasion of the foot. I've also heard a deficiency in vitamin A can contribute to bumblefoot. V.

    Mealworms: live vs. dried

I was surprised when I switched my buttons to dried, they really didn't show a preference and I figured I'd stick to the dry since they're easier to store (bugs in the fridge were frowned upon). V.

Quail Chick Falling Over (possibly after some trauma)

I got a phone call from my bf today that one of the quail chicks (they're about 3 weeks now) got out of the cage and the wing looked hurt. He put it back into the cage and when I got home I took him out to give him a once over. His right wing does have a slight droop, but he will use it. What...

    all who are hatching quail

I have 2 pair of button quail set up in a 75 gallon tank. I incubate their eggs 10 at a time in a Brinsea Mini Eco with pretty good success. The brood is then raised in a 20L gallon tank. Cheers, V.

    The Hatch! Plus a Concern

Good news! When I moved the group from the incubator to the brooder, which is lined with a type of astroturf-like liner, the problem seemed to fix itself over a few hours. The liner is basically what you use for reptile tanks and keeps their nails from getting caught. As far as the incubator...

    The Hatch! Plus a Concern

First time using a Brinsea mini eco and we got 8 out of 10 button quail eggs to hatch on the same day! 7 of them are doing well in the brooder set-up, but I am concerned about one of them. Although he is able to walk, when at rest his legs go off in different directions. Is this something that I...

    Brinsea Mini Eco Ordered!

Thanks for your help; I'm sure I'll have more questions once I get the incubator up and running. V.

    Brinsea Mini Eco Ordered!

Pretty excited to have ordered this incubator today, but I was curious if anyone knows if I'll need to modify it at all for button quail and if it requires any special care for this species. Thanks in advance for any help! V.

help to tell what the sex is of these two lovable parakeets

Actually, this is going to be harder for you since both birds are of a color variety (one albino and the other lutino) that could prevent the cere from changing color. Your best bet if you don't want to pay for having your birds sexed is to watch the behavior. Males will typically chirp, bob...

    Quail Toys [Light-hearted Thread]

Yup, it's exactly like what you've seen with dogs. It's called positive reinforcement training and I've used it successfully with a variety of bird species; this will be my first attempt with a ground bird though. I'll keep everyone posted on the progress!

    Quail Toys [Light-hearted Thread]

I've started the process of "clicker" training my button quail with a laser pointer. Basically, I turn on the light and then toss down a dried meal worm. They've picked up on it pretty quick so when they see the laser light they know to expect a meal worm. I hope to follow this up by...
