7 going on 8 week old chick with a naked neck?

Thank you. I never noticed this with last year's brood, but I probably wouldn't have noticed on Ruby if I hadn't picked her up. It seems to stay hidden by the top feathers unless she turns her head a certain way.

7 going on 8 week old chick with a naked neck?

Looks like my 7 going on 8 week old RIR is missing feathers. On closer inspectio. Everything looks healthy and the feathers look like they're coming in. (The feathers look like small paintbrushes rather than bare skin or broken feathers.) I thought chicks keep their down until they grow...

    Underdeveloped Hen?

So I have a California white who is about 6 months old just the the rest of my hens. Pecking order has been established, and she's low man on the totem pole. All appear to be fully grown, or close to it, with the exception of Sugar. She has no wattles, though she does have a bald spot on each...

    What Am I?

So since there are two almost identical ones (one is just a hair bigger) I put up an ad on Craigslist. I want to give one away. Any idea on which I should keep? I got one that crows CONSTANTLY, but to my knowledge the other hasn't crowed at all. Thinking about getting rid of the noisier one...

    What Am I?

They're about 13 weeks right now. A couple are maybe 11 weeks. Also on the (now confirmed cockerels) they were supposed to be barred rocks. I actually wanted a flock full of barred rocks, but I kind of ended up with a mixed flock. So they might be la fleches then?

    What Am I?

There are two that are nearly identical, only one is pictured (the first two photos). One of them started crowing recently, but when I bought them, I thought they were barred rocks. I'm not really sure what to make of them as far as breed now, but I definitely agree that they're roosters.

    What Am I?

Okay, so I think I know where I stand now, but I still have a few questions. These are supposed to be barred rock hens, but it seems to be a rooster and not a barred rock at all, anyone have any idea what it is? Gender is probably male (I think) but I'm now clueless on...

    What Am I?

So here is an update. My chicks are between 5 and 7 weeks old now, some are closer to five, some closer to seven. I'd like some opinions on the ones that have either questionable breeds or questionable genders. This is Delilah, at least I hope it's Delilah. (S)he is on the seven week...

    What Am I?

Oh no! (s)he's my favorite! I already have one I'm about 98% sure is a rooster. 2 out of 5 when it's supposed to be 90% female isn't all that great.

    What Am I?

Found the right place for a thread like this. I'm not sure what kind of chick I have here, was just in a bin. Any ideas? Also, is my RIR a rooster? Anyone have an opinion?

    Can you identify these chicks?

Pretty sure the RIR is the one with the yellow head. She looks much more like an RIR in pictures than she seems to in real life. That just leaves the brown one. Also, with RIRs, if the black spot on the back of the head is missing that means it's a rooster right?

New Member, New Chicken Raiser too!

My name is Vanessa, and this is my first brood. I moved out onto a half acre, and told my boyfriend I wanted some chickens (guess I wanted to dive head first into country life!). Six months later, they're here, and so far it's been interesting. I really wanted barred rocks. I liked the...

    Can you identify these chicks?

So I picked up my first brood on Saturday. Three barred rocks, one Rhode Island red, and one I cannot remember. I know which ones are the barred rocks, but I can't remember which the other two are. Can anyone look at them and identify a type? Also, one of the barred rocks is most likely a...
