I lost this post for awhile and was so frustrated i could not find the crucial update!!! So glad it worked out and may i say...what an adorable chick!!!!
i HATE my leghorns and am also wondering if they will calm down at all....they rile evryone up and are more flighty then i ever thought possible. i will be watching this thread to see if people with older leghorns respond. as it is now i am planning chicken dinners for my meat eating family now.
All of mine have a bulls eye and also only have girls. I put a picture up awhile ago and everyone on here said it was a fertile egg but over a year later and no rooster so.....
I have my cat who was in the house all day and rarely ventures out. Very few feathers....maybe five small ones from i think the tail....
Everything is at the foot of the tree and even one small feather stuck to the tree trunk just at my eye level.
Last year I lost two grown chickens. One was injured and healed and died later. The other was missing for two months and then was found headless in the yard....body in tact. All feathers still on the bird.
This week four chicks have been taken. No signs of them when the first three went...
yesterday my baby rooster went missing. last week all the other babies went missing while visiting the yard. my whole batch of layers is gone now. and i really liked that baby rooster and was even going to think about keeping him if he was a good roo. i have to go post in predators and pests...
I do not have any loners. I have an even numbered flock right now. Soon it will go from four to seven with six girls and one boy but in the meantime i have a very happy flock of four. I hope adding to it won't single anyone out!!!
Well I sort of knew he was a boy from almost day one but I thought it would be no big deal to maybe re-home him. Now that he is the sole survivor from his group I am not sure I can get rid of him in anyway. he seems to just adore me too!!! The whole fam!!! But I hear horror stories about roos so...
I have one survivor from a batch of four babies. I think it is a boy but for now i just call it baby. If it is a boy then it will be 'baby boy' and if a girl then 'baby girl'. Not very creative but the only chicken name i have ever come up with. all the others were chosen for me.
My silkies are a week old and do not seem much bigger than when i got them. All my other chicks seems to grow overnight but the silkies don't seem to be growing the same? Is this usual?
