Yeah unfortunately I couldn’t do much more for frostbite. It got down to -20 F, put an ointment over his comb and wattles and treated with a spray once they started bleeding from it- thankfully the cold snap is past. I will get an all flock and add additional oyster shells for the hens and see...
I haven’t treated for mites. I’ve checked for further signs on them and don’t believe that’s an issue. Diet is Country Companion 16% protein (just what my layers eat). Light scratch grains mixed in feed when it’s 0 degrees or below and I’ll throw it outside for enrichment when they’re ranging...
Any idea why my rooster (who used to be fully covered in red feathers) is looking disheveled? Just his feathers on his wing back and sides. He’s a solo rooster with 28 hens and no apparent pecking order so not worried about another rooster or hens pecking at him. Comb is due to frostbite.
The store I purchased this chicken from said she was a white leghorn, now that she's getting older she looks different than my other younger white leghorns. Her tail doesn't perk up and she has a tan white color coming in.
was sold this chicken as a Barred Rock. Can Barred Rocks be all black? My other two younger ones already have their white colors in with their black, this one only has black!
I think they're around 4 weeks old now and their lamp just broke. They're in a garage kept old water trough. Do I need to worry about it and buy a new lamp or are they fine?
