Advice needed - small amount of frostbite found on rooster's comb

It's a little hard to see in the second pic, but the roost bar height is such that their heads would come just to the base of the window. The vent is at the very top of the window, probably ~3 feet above their heads, if not more. I could trim the piece of plexi that is covering the window to...

Advice needed - small amount of frostbite found on rooster's comb

Thanks for the input! Coincidentally, those were things I was planning to do in Spring, but I can try to at least put one in the man door on a warmer Winter day. As an interim step until I am able to do that, should I put in a small computer fan pushing air out the vent, or would that not...

Advice needed - small amount of frostbite found on rooster's comb

I'm in Southern coastal Maine. The coop is 8.5 ft x 6.5 ft x approx 8'tall. I have one rooster and six other standard sized birds (largest is a standard Buff hen, for reference). The rest are on the very small side of standard or bantams. Total # of birds is 17. They all free range during...

Advice needed - small amount of frostbite found on rooster's comb

Hi All, We had a pretty good snowstorm the last day and a half and I ended up leaving my birds in the coop all day yesterday. I shoveled them out this morning and looked them all over and noticed that my rooster had a small amount of frostbite on his comb. All of my birds are 2020 hatches, so...

Comment by 'nickyblase' in item 'Hentronix Automatic Door Opener and Closer'

@TARDIS37379 - could you share what they gave you for a smart home workaround? I noticed with their iOS/Android app, some things could be done, but only via bluetooth. I'm very close to ordering an auto opener and thinking about Hentronix, but smart home is top of mind for me as well.

Adding bantams to an existing flock of standard sized young birds

Hi All, Not at all new to chickens, but never having had bantams, I am looking for your expertise. I'm looking to get 3-4 bantams to add to my existing birds, all of whom will be standard size when full grown. My existing flock is all young birds. 9 pullets that are about 3 months old, and...

Question for the "techie" people out there - automation, wifi etc.

So far, I haven't found one. There are apps that could do the lighting and camera in one app but without I haven't seen one that does a coop door too. I'd be very curious to see if you hear of one.

    CPR on chickens?

I had a terrible thing happen today - one of my month-old babies drowned in a bucket of water (one of the water buckets with the nipples on the bottom - the lid came off :hit . I don't know how long she was in there, when I pulled her out, her legs were stiff and neck leaning toward one...

Question for the "techie" people out there - automation, wifi etc.

Thanks for the replies. I was actually looking at playing around with a Raspberry Pi (and I'm familiar with what Python is - I work in IT, but to say I'm not a coder is an understatement!). There are a few threads on here that show the code that you all had used, right? I'll have to go back...

Question for the "techie" people out there - automation, wifi etc.

I'm looking to do a few upgrades to my coop and need some input. I plan to get an automatic door opener, but would like to have the ability to do a manual override over wifi or bluetooth. I see that the "Coop Tender" has wifi available, but their reviews are abysmal. Total bummer to see that...

help! day 24 and egg shows external pip, but no progress or sounds, and only fur visible

hi all, wondering if it's time to intervene - I pulled the other 4 chicks that hatched out of the incubator, as it was approaching a couple days and they were knocking into everything. One of the 2 remaining eggs has an external pip, on the very bottom of the egg - not sure if I didn't see it...
