One of our week old chicks is shaking her head, especially when we take her out of the brooder to check over and pet her. It doesn't seem to happen as much in the brooder! She has been in there scratching around with her siblings, and hasn't shaken her head once while I have been watching. No...
When my nephews were young enough to really like marbles, the really big ones were difficult to find for some reason. My eyes are still peeled for them from that era!
Wanted to throw in some for taxes.
The new peeps would like to know: Would you listen to this album? (I suspect it's New Wave.)
This was last week; they're happily playing in the brooder now.
Thank you! My brooder was ready to go, at least! They were most happy to get into it the morning after the last chick hatched.
A giant marble sounds pretty fancy. ;) Mine just get a handful of well-scrubbed decorative flat glass pebbles!
Ha, that's a good point!
They do seem to have stomped and napped on the small thermometer enough to have nearly taken it out. 😄
That incubator you borrowed sounds like another bad one. Ooof.
Oh, no, I'm not stressed, just really tired. One of those weeks where you forget how to make coffee! I did mean incubator, yes, thanks. ;) I wanted to be sure I was on the right track since the hatch did lag between the fifth and sixth chick.
Thank you, I appreciate it! You always give...
Our first chick hatched out last night right around 9PM; four more followed in fairly short order last night, and the final chick popped out about 10:20AM today. Since they absorbed their yolks, yes, all six peeps are fine in the incubator for up to 72 hours, but with this being my first...
@Shadrach Treacle is so handsome!
So far as the biting bird discussion, for whatever reason I've been blessed on that front. Sometimes they 'peck' somewhat aggressively if I offer food from the palm of my hand, but that's not intentional.
For what it's worth, every one of my Buckeyes and...
Update—Once that peep began pushing, it was out super fast! It had been resting so long I was nervous, but stuck to my guns to let it get the job done on its own if possible, and it's peeping away in the incubator with two siblings, and, I hope, at least one more on the way, maybe two.
Thank...
Will do, thanks so much. Should I take it out again in a few hours, or just wait?
(I'm leaning towards the latter, but usually have a broody to handle this for me, so this is my first incubator hatch. Despite my several offers of living the high life, IN THE HOUSE even, with music and movies...
Thank you! I have been reading and reading, but wasn't sure about the time. Alas, I *did* try to help, after printing out the article you linked and a similar one on the site, by @silkiechicken from '07. I was so anxious I forgot to candle, and of COURSE the chick had pipped the wrong end, and...
