    Cats and chicks.

Thanks for your replies you confirmed what I was thinking really. Their adopted mum is very big and very protective and my cats have no interest at all in the fully grown hens I was just worried bout the little ones. I will give it a few more weeks and then see how we go at free ranging them...

    Cats and chicks.

Hi guys, I've got 3 hens that free range and one has 3 polish bantam chicks at 5 weeks old. The others have started to accept the chicks and live as a flock but I'm keeping the chicks in when they free range. My cats are not bothered by the hens but I'm not sure when I can let the chicks out...

    Bleeding from behind.

From her vent I think. I checked earlier and there was nothing there but she's now crouching and raising her bottom and there's a bit of blood there. It's not as much as yesterday and it doesn't look swollen.

    Bleeding from behind.

Thank you I will try that. She's been fine all day but it's about the same time as yesterday and she's looking sorry for herself and bleeding a bit again. I feel quiet helpless.

    Bleeding from behind.

Thanks for the reply. I did think that about the soft egg as they both gobbled it up after. But no idea why it's soft as they always have oyster shell egg shells and they roam free on grit. Very odd.

    Sad news.

I found one of my day old chicks dead this morning. One minute she was fine running around and next time we looked she was flat out on the coop floor. I wondered if mum could have stepped on her and caused it, otherwise I have no idea.

    Double shell while hatching.

Thank you for your replies. It never occurred to me it could be another chicks egg. I've been up there to look this morning and there's a small hole where the crack was but the egg looks like it's leaked slightly, a bit sticky and yellow is that normal? Mum is still tucking it underneath her and...

    Double shell while hatching.

Hi everyone I need some advice and have always had amazing answers but I'm struggling to find my answer this time. I've got 6 eggs on day 21 being hatched by mum, 4 have done really well but one egg looks like it has a double shell. The outer shell has half come off and the inner one has a small...
