hey quick question here
I've got my first broody hen, and not sure if I should move/quaratine her from the rest of the flock. I have her placed under the nesting boxes (lots of room) but not sure if I should barricade her in/others out.
any suggestions?
I have one chicken who spends her time kicking straw out of the nesting boxes. She will spend most of her time in the box, outside of it, half in it, etc, and now I've noticed that she slowly (over a couple days) takes all the straw out of the boxes! Anyone else have a chicken that does this...
Hey all,
I'm getting my whole garden and this tree area fenced this week for my chickens. The fencing will be 6ft tall, and the bottom starts out smaller (holes) than the top.
My questions:
1) Will chickens still be able to get over that? I have ameracaunas, some rocks, wyandottes, a silkie...
Have you considered white washing it? I plan on whitewashing my coop here once we've sheeted the inside. It's a white paint, but has hydrated lime in it which kills mites/lice. Not only does it look 'fresh', but it's easier to clean (you can't wash something off plywood) and kills the bugs! A...
Hey,, I know you posted this a Long time ago, but I found it recently through pinterest. Anyways, I have a PVC feeder, same as the one above but instead of holes, it's just open. My feeder isn't mounted up yet (chicks are just 8 weeks old). I find that the food will stick to the corners of the...

I'd like to know if it's normal for bleeding to occur when their feathers come in. I have some Ameracaunas who when their back feathers were coming in, it was red and raw. And then another ameracauna where it's tail met the back, those...
Take a dead chicken and tie it to their neck/collar for a few days. Until it starts to smell. I personally have never done this, but my father in law said that they had done that with their dogs. It just takes one dead chicken tied to the dog to teach it. It will start to smell, and so will...
Here's a pic of the wounds. Sorry I couldn't get a better pic. I'm sure you're all aware of how difficult it is to get a chick to keep still! The stillest one is Never the one you need a picture of!
It's the worst right where the tail thing starts. You can tell that it was raw further up as...
Last week I noticed 3 of my 5 week ameracaunas with bloody back feathers. Actually, the feathers weren't quite in but where they were coming in it was red and about to bleed it looked like. I seperated them and they were fine. Last night I noticed ANOTHER ameracauna with the same issue...just a...
