Just got the llamas sheared so we’ve got bags of wool. Thinking about using it in the nest boxes. Anybody have any experience with that? Might be better in winter…
The two weird shaped pieces are loose so they can swing out into the niches in the frame to lock the door. And they get swung the other way and pull out of the niches when the middle piece is pulled by the cord.
In my case, I ran the cord thru the wall of the coop to a cleat on the outside. So I open and close from outside the coop. But you could mount the cleat anywhere the cord reaches.
The door to my run is inside the coop. I had to go inside to open and close. There is a short skyway to the run, but the coop door could be lifted which concerned me.

Oh it’s just what’s hanging around mostly. They get romaine or green beans or squash seeds if I have that. But my older cat demands wet food at night but doesn’t end up eating most of it, so the chickens get it.
I think it was the scratch and new strip curtain. Now I’m feeding scratch only in the morning, and one strip of the new curtain is tucked up so the chickens can see thru to the run. Peace has been restored. The heat lamp was on for two nights when it was below zero. No fire, no frostbite.
There are 16 birds. I went back out at 9 and turned it on. They are all roosted. I’ll be out there early tomorrow and take a picture. I also today put up a strip curtain over the door between the coop and the run to keep the howling winds out. Maybe too much change at once.
