Which dog breeds in general tend to do well around backyard flocks?

one way I always think of it, its like when you have a second or a third child, your not replacing your first child with a second, so getting another dog is not replacing a previous dog just adding to the family, its just a different journey. Also might be worth it to make it kinda like a date...

Which dog breeds in general tend to do well around backyard flocks?

I hear you there, bully breeds are very common in most shelters, and they can be great dogs, but they are definitely a dog that should not be in a family of beginner dog owners, they need a lot of socialization, and exercise, I wouldn't even say so much that they have a high prey drive, but they...

Which dog breeds in general tend to do well around backyard flocks?

My mutt (1/8 American bull dog and 1/8 rat terrier rest was to muddled for the dna test) does just fine around my chickens, she also did fine around my guinea pigs, and if I bring a cat into the house she does fine with them as well. I can even let her in the chicken coop and all she wants to do...

My dog is a chicken eater, don't know what to do

Plenty of mix breed dogs can do just fine. My dog is 1/8 rat terrier, and 1/8 American bulldog rest is too muddled to tell on dna test, but I can 100% trust her around my chickens, cats, small rodents even though she shows a lot of terrier behaviors, she was even a rescue from a neglectful...

My dog is a chicken eater, don't know what to do

And eventually you can upgrade the temptation to full on chickens, maybe put a chicken in a dog crate and teach the leave it command with the chicken.

My dog is a chicken eater, don't know what to do

So like a person said earlier it's never too soon to start training a dog. What I would do is start teaching the leave it command. With leave it you want the dog to not pay any mind to whatever you tell it to leave alone. To start the training you take a piece of food (like cheese or lunch...

I have something I can use for a kill cone, my problem is I dont know the butchering process and dont want to end up puncturing the stomach or intestines or anything else while removing the guts and I am usually a hands on learner. I will figure it out if I cant find anyone, just would prefer an...

    Washingtonians Come Together! Washington Peeps

Hello everyone, So my flock has been diagnosed with Marek's disease, over this last spring and summer I have collected some birds for a breeding project I was going to do. But now that I have marek's in my flock that went out the window. I have not decided if I want to breed for resistance yet...

    Help with sick Broody hen.

So I got my official diagnosis from the lab today and the results were very surprising. They said she had Mareks disease and that suppressed her immune system enough that she developed a bacterial infection (bacteria just from the environment) that took her life. So now I have quite a few things...

I am still waiting on a histopathology from them as well. And I cant keep waiting on more and more tests. If this lab says she came back clean for MG I am going to believe them. I gave 25 chickens and am going through 2 bags of feed a month, I cant keep them any longer for more testing. If they...

So I got a result for the bacterial culture, they said it was a "Mixed bacterial growth" they do test for MG so I would think MG would come up if it was that. the result comment was "Mixed bacterial growth is consistent with normal upper respiratory flora and/or contamination. No probable...

    Help with sick Broody hen.

Unless she already had it when she came on to the farm, I just dont see how she would have gotten it as they dont free range, and we dont really get other birds in our yard. But who knows. Just not looking forward to having to kill all my birds. It cost a lot of money up till now to collect all...

    Help with sick Broody hen.

So I finally got necropsy results in, but for some reason the necropsy didn't include a Histopathology, so I have to pay extra to get that done to actually see what was affecting her. Here is what they said though about what they found: "Multifocally and randomly distributed over the skin of...
