She wasn't broody at the time, but could have been recently. I don't remember. She was broody so much! It happened in one day/night. They do peck at her while settling for the night. I have a camera in the coop. But this would have been much more than usual. So maybe from broodiness.
She...
So glad I found this thread! My mottled cochin Bantam is molting too. It's good to hear others are too. She's a bit sorry looking but not a hard molt. She's lowest in the pecking order and the others had pecked feathers off her head and neck so it's nice to see feathers coming in there now...
It was hard, but now I don't have to go through another knee replacement. Plus you can't cheat on rehab. There literally isn't a good leg to stand on, lol. So every step you take contributes to recovery. I did have a good talk with my surgeon about pain relief prior to having it done. And...
Hi! This looks like a good place to come back to. I've been gone from BYC a few months due to a double knee replacement.
I have a small city flock of 3 EE bantams and 1 cochin bantam. My cochin, Diamond, is my trouble maker. She's hopelessly broody a good part of the time and now she decided...
My daughter got chicks in Feb, a small order of 5 so they added 3 for extra warmth. All survived. Only one was a cockerel. So extra chicks are not always cockerels, in case you get extra and don't want cockerels. :)
Oh no! I'm so sorry! You lost so many, you must have been devastated! :hugs I can't imagine. :( Did you figure out what the illnesses were? I still have my 4: Pearl, Opal, Jade, and Diamond.
I made scrambled eggs for mine today, giving Diamond her own bowl separate from the others. She's...
Anyone still around? I've been gone quite a while, I had a double knee replacement. Diamond FINALLY stopped being broody after 2+ months.
She started molting...in December argh! Luckily it's been a warm December so far. She's lost way too much weight with her molt. I hadn't picked her up...
Midnight. There are street lights and one shines slightly into the coop when I open the door, so maybe that's not helping.
Now I have one of my bantam EEs staying in the nest box day and night too. They're both going to have to just do whatever for a few days because I'm not going to be home...
Ok, set up the fan today and wet her bottom periodically. She is eating, the food is decreasing and she is pooping. I let her out for a while to clean the crate and to set up the fan. She stayed with her little flock more than before and when she was with them doing normal chicken things she...
What a beautiful dog! I'm glad the chickens are all starting to roost together, that must make you happy.
I'd love to extend my run a bit. It looked big enough when I built it and according to space requirements it's big, but it seems so small now that there are chickens in it!
I don't have room in my coop to separate a broody and chicks from the other 3. I can barely fit the crate I have Diamond in inside the coop. I could probably make the roost a bit smaller, I originally was going to get LF, but then decided on bantams.
So I tried putting a cold pack under the...
