This was sold as a 6wk old aracauna pullet.

Aha! That will teach me to gongoogling LOL I am in Australia. What about clucking at such a young age? Is that normal?

I'm guessing its not aracauna as she has a tail? But also is already clucking (sounded either like an alert or egg song) whereas my other chooks at 10wks are still cheeping and chirping. And she looks small rather than young. Is she some sort of aracauna crossbred with a bantam?

10wk Australorps... please tell me at least one of these is a pullet!!!

I got them as day olds on 21st September so there's no question they are only 10wks old. :( On the bright side, the other 4 that were hatched same day all seem to be girls. No red combs to be seen.

10wk Australorps... please tell me at least one of these is a pullet!!!

At 5wks old, it was clear one was a roo. He already had a red comb and wattles. But now at 10wks one has started crowing and I can't figure out which one it is, as now they BOTH have red combs. My other chooks are different breeds so these are the only two I have to compare with. They are...

First huge eggs, then prolapse, now huge BROKEN eggs!

No roosters here... we are in suburbia where you can only have up to 6 hens. Hoping to find an answer, as I feel my only other option is culling rather than having repeated prolapses and/or bacterial infections etc.

She's definitely not overweight... quite scrawny in fact. My two older girls are matronly, but the three younger ones still have very lean figures. I have found info on prolapses and also on large eggs and broken eggs, but not combination of those factors.

First huge eggs, then prolapse, now huge BROKEN eggs!

I have a hen here (a red cross) who is around 18 months old, she had been laying quite large eggs compared to the other girls, and recently one got stuck and broke in her vent, which prolapsed. I managed to sort out the prolapse and get her back to normal with a few days of TLC and low light...

Infectious Bronchitis in just one chicken? Will she recover? Will she remain contagious?

Another day has passed and she seems to be rallying. Her tail seems not so droopy today and I've seen her actively drinking today. She is still coughing/crowing a lot though and not eating much at all. I'm still hoping someone will be able to tell me the likelihood of her remaining infectious...

Infectious Bronchitis in just one chicken? Will she recover? Will she remain contagious?

One of our girls seems to have infectious bronchitis or something similar. I separated her from the flock as soon as I noticed she wasn't well and the others have so far shown no symptoms at all, but everything I've read suggests that it's VERY infectious and they will all get it. She's in a...

    Ancona Chicken Thread

The one on the left is a Welsummer, and the little dark head poking through at the far left is Nutmeg, our Barnevelder. When the four are all ranging together they are such a pretty lot! <3

    Ancona Chicken Thread

Hello! I thought it about time I added pics of my lovely Freckles now that she's almost grown up. :-) She hatched on 17th December so I guess she's about 18 weeks old now. She has a lovely nature and gets on really well with her coop-mates. Shown here with Lacey the Light Sussex and Cinnamon the...

Official BYC Poll - How Many Square Feet Per Chicken?

I currently have 12.8 sq ft (doing the conversion from metric) per chicken, including the coop and the covered run. They also get free range of my yard from time to time (the big girl gets to range daily for a few hours, the little girls have only been out once or twice because I worry about...

Putting a single 1yr old hen in with four 8 week old chicks? *UPDATE*

I think the ONLY reason it worked as well as it did was because the smaller chicks had a definite advantage of not only their numbers (they had the majority 4 against 1) but also it was their turf the older hen was coming into. Had these two factors not been in play It would most likely not have...
