    Huge shell, runny egg

Thanks Annbella - All the girls are just a year old, they eat the same feed, although they are mostly free ranging. They have plenty of shade so I don't think its heat, unless that one chicken stands in the sun alone. Thanks for trying though.

    Huge shell, runny egg

One of my Easter Eggers is laying HUGE eggs. They look like double yokers but bigger. When you crack them, they have a yoke and white, but there is no form to any of the contents, it just runs across the pan like a watery goo. any ideas?

    Deformed chick, what to do?

I have since searched "cross beak" and found lots of info - thanks to all that posted so quickly. Mine seems to be a pretty bad case and I am afraid I will have to do the deed and spare her the inevitable. Thanks everyone, this is a great community!

    Need the scoop on Marans

Thank you. So are they considered a duel purpose bird or an egg layer?

    Need the scoop on Marans

I purchased some Maran chicks, one hen, and one roo, they look like a barred rock. When I look at this site in the breed section it shows marans twice - one as an egg layer and one as a dual purpose, but neither of them look like what I have. Any ideas as to what I will end up with?

    Hello from Napa!

Like most, I have been lurking here for a while, reading and learning. Using all the great information gleaned here and elsewhere, we have started our first flock of layers! Two of each: Austrolorps, Wyondots, Easter eggers and speckled Sussex. We have a small ranch in the wine country and...
