Western PA Chickens
Our six little chicks are getting big fast. We just moved them int o the coop this week at 5 weeks old. They love it! Here are some random pics from age 2 days to 5 weeks, the coop, and the kids.
We converted an old shed/ playhouse into a coop. Didn't take much to do...
Sorry.
No changes whatsoever.
No rooster.
We are in western Pennsylvania. it has been very hot the last week or so.
the damage is (I'm told) near her tail.
We feed them the same thing we have always fed them. Poultry layer feed from TSC.
Maybey in the next day or so I can get a picture on here...
I havn't been on here in a long time. Mainly b/c things have been going quite well. We have six RSL's and they have not given us two much trouble. They are just over a year old all hens. My wife noticed over the past couple days that they seem to be picking on the smallest one. They are literaly...
I have six RSL. These are our first chickens. We were not expecting eggs until 18-22 weeks, but this week on of them started to lay an egg. They are 15 weeks old. We are getting one egg every other day for the past six days.
I was wondering the same thing. I have shredded paper redily available to me, but have been hesitant to use it. My concern has been that the hens would eat it, as they already peck at the wood chips, and get sick from the ink on the paper. ?????
We got our first egg today. Wasn't expexting it until next month. Guess I'm building nesting boxes tonight. Do I need to put something in the bottom of them? Like straw? I'm thinking about using two milk crates turned on their side.
Our 6 hens are about 10 weeks old. we are still feeding them the grower food from TSC. when do we switch to the layer feed? Can they have scratch? Is grit something they need? or does it just depend on what they are being fed. The only treats we give them are crackers, graham crackers and greens...
O.K. I didn't know if I should post this here or in the coop design section. I am confused about nesting box. I have 6 hens. I have their coop and run built and they are in it now. I need to get busy and build the nesting box. I read somewhere on BYC that for each four chickens you need 1 box. ...
Thanks for all the answers everyone. As far as where I live it's in Pennsylvania. Gets pretty cold and nast in our particular area too. People around here just say that they will stop laying in the winter, but I wondered if i could keep that from happening by keeping it warm enough in the coop.
I'll be interested in seeing if this works out for you. Post a pic when you get them built if you can. I am currently working on my coop, and am looking for ideas.
