Hello all,
The 4 H project that needs to go. Coop is approximately 17ft long from handle to nesting box. Has entry into the run and the main coop. Clean up is easy. Moving it around is easy for me. My wife struggles with is. She if 5'3". I've recently upgraded the wheels to 12in tubeless...
Hey all,
I have 5 Ameraucana Roo's that I got from Schroeder Poultry as day olds, free.
They are 5 weeks old in good health. My plans called for 5-6 hens and I have no need for them.
We were considering raising them for meat but I really don't have the space.
There are 6 in this picture...
I spoke to the breeder. I sent him a picture of the birds and asked about the different coloration's. He said this hatch was all Wheaton. No blues or splash. He said the darker birds were males, and the lighter ones are females. I can't believe I lucked out and plucked a 50/50 mix.
Starting on my coop today. Building a larger version of this:
This one is 3x3 coop with a small run. I forget the dimensions. Mine will be 4x6 coop for 4-6 hens. with a 4'x10' run. I know I'm a little undersized on the run, but we plan on letting them roam the yard for a few hours in the...
Could be. I know the rooster is a Blue Wheaton. He's a good looking bird. Most of the hens I saw were Wheatons and Blue Wheatons. My daughter and I picked our 13 chicks out of maybe 40? So with our luck, yea we got all splash roosters! LOL
They came from an ABC breeder so sure hope not! lol (I'm sure they're not. Love the birds so far Duane.)
I am shooting for a flock of 4-6 hens. I was hoping that by covering most of the run with clear plastic the hens could still get plenty of outside time. A good point to think about though...
So, week number 2 has come to an end. The little so and so's are already outgrowing the new brooder I think. This was taken at the end of week one. There is a lot less real-estate at the end of week two.
Live and learn, fewer chicks or bigger brooder. I will be adding several sqft of room to...
Hello all,
I have a story/question to tell/ask. One of my chicks had crusty eyes on day two (last Saturday) after bringing him home. He is one of the smaller chicks in this batch of 13.
They were crusted shut and he wasn't very active. I set up a sick box and moved him (and another chick...
Hello all,
This is my fist time with chickens. I have 13 Ameraucana chicks. That are about a week old, give or take a day. Here is how they are sleeping tonight:
I use an infrared thermometer to take surface reading of the litter and the chicks. I've kept them at 95 all week. Does this...
