Thank you both for the replies!
I was afraid the older girls might get over the 4", so I will probably put 2 rows of wire to go all the way up.
Aart- I do get what you're saying and that sounds really cool. I have limited carpentry skills, though I do think I can incorporate some of what you...
H All,
I am getting ready to put my 6 week old chicks in the coop as I don't have a separate pen for them and they are getting too stinky and messy for the brooder.
My question is ...... I plan to partition off part of the coop with chicken wire for them, and let them hang out there for a few...
holy cow, I am beside myself. So far 6 have hatched and doing well :) I have 1 in the bator that pipped at the wrong end but has a good sized whole, so I am going to let it be for awhile and just keep an eye on it. Two more eggs are just sitting there doing nothing. I'll get some pix later...
So nice to hear good stories about shipped eggs!
Well I had one hatch at 20 1/2 days, that little bugger took about 18 minutes from pip to zip to hatch! I have one that just hatched minutes ago and I think 4-5 more with pips. I cant tell anymore since Zippy (the one that hatched so quickly)...
I agree with what the other posters have said. I had a 4x4 coop the first time for just a few hens, and it served it's purpose, but boy was it PITA to clean! My current coop and run are walk-in ( I also have a lot more chicks now) and it really make life easier to clean or replenish food, water...
Good to hear that success rate! A friend of mine had only 2 hatch out of 12 from shipped eggs and I have been worrying the whole time, I'm still worried something may go wrong in these last few day.
I'm so excited my stomach is in knots, ack!
I had 12 shipped Barnevelder eggs, 1 was a yolker and 2 had blood rings that I removed at day 14. The nine left all look good, I can see movement in all and the air cells are looking pretty close to where they should be. Considering what I have...
Looking like Roos to me as well. Here is a pic of my 6 week BR ( not so sure my is really a BR) for comparison. Mine has no where near the comb your baby is sporting!
I'll try to get a better pic today, it is a pea comb but I have one of the same breed with what looks like more of a rose comb, and that one has been slower to develop than the other. If the little stinkers will hold still I'll get a few more pic later today! Thanks all
This chick is my favorite of the batch. Very precocious, and nosey! Gets very perturbed whenever I change the water and pecks the heck outta me. Possibly a roo? I hope so, I know most folks don't want them but I would like one roo out of my group. About 5 weeks old
